Ok, Been playing my new 7800 a bit. I'm starting to see what you mean about the ProLine sticks not being very good. I have rebuilt one of my sticks, and it centers ok. Still a little loose, but usable. I've found that I'm fatiguing rather quickly when I have to use the buttons rapidly, like pumping up a baddie in Dig Dug. The buttons on this particular stick (maybe it's a design problem) tend to stick if you don't press in the middle, which makes it worse.

I'm in the middle of rebuilding a TeleGames stick. It seems actually to be a bit more stout internally, so I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Got my TeleGames controller back together. Gotta think right now it's much better than the ProLines.

Obviously more solid internal build, sturdier shell. So far a bit more comfortable.

I made my proline much tighter, and the response is better, but are those tele joysticks better, than a brand new pro line, I might just get a Sega Genesis Arcade Stick, when I find a new one on Ebay or Amazon.

Im still having fun with my proline, its not hurting my hand, its just that I think maybe the response isn't 100%, its good but if the genesis stick is closer to 100% response, then I must make a change.

But I do like the pro lines better than any d-pad (I like arcade feel and d-pads don't give you that).

A lot of people don't like the pro-line sticks. I like them, but I'm in the minority on that. I haven't played any games requiring both buttons, or even a 7800 since 92, but I can see where that might suck on those. I use the ball of my thumb on the upper end of the button and they snap back quite well. Perhaps you need better springs or cleaning where the button slides. Try springs from an old keyboard. :)

I used the old CX-40 for my 7800 most of the time. On Desert Falcon, functionality is limited as you need both fire buttons to use all of your items. Generally it won't make a difference though.

I just got my Telegames 7800 joystick today. AA user Official Ninja recommended this to me in another thread. If you haven't seen one, it looks very similar to the Proline but seems to be of a much more sturdy build, particularly the buttons. I'd say it is a definite improvement if you like the style of the Proline stick but just have issues with the build.

There's one addition that may make a big difference for you: the Quick Fire switch. You can hold down the fire button and squeeze off multiple shots compared to just one with the Proline. I was testing it with 7800 Asteroids, and you can send off eight shots with each depression. (You may recall that the other button is for hyperspace.) It makes the game almost too easy; the UFOs don't stand a chance. But if the constant button-mashing was an problem for you with the "coffin-style" controllers, I'd say this feature improves the situation quite a bit.

You can buy these NIB all day long for $30 off eBay, but for some reason the seller put one up for auction a week ago at $10, and I was the only bidder.

I know that Ax does NES and Genesis controller mods for the 7800; in the case of the Genesis, it adds the functionality of that extra button for those few games that use items.

I bought a couple from Ax and they work very well. The D-Pad doesn't work as well as the Telegames joystick for some games, and the Quick Fire is a handy feature.
