Over the years I have always wanted a Jaguar, and yesterday I finally ordered a 'brand new' Jaguar from Best Electronics. This is surreal. I remember begging my parents for the Jaguar when I was 10 or 11 years old, I never got one. I had no idea brand new sealed Jaguars still existed until I stumbled on to Best Electronics. The Jaguar should be here next Thursday!

Next week I also plan to buy Tempest 2000 and Doom, new in box from Best Electronics. Then Alien vs Predator as well. Any other suggestions?

I will be plugging the Jaguar into my new LG HDTV, no S Video ports. I will be using composite, so I hope I can control the aspect ratio and that it looks decent.

Best Electronics sounds fantastic, I cannot believe they still have sealed Jaguars, games in stock. I am in shock. Does anyone have any info on how they have so many Jaguar products, new and sealed at that!

Is there any place in the Dallas/Fort Worth area to buy Jaguar games?

Glad to be aboard!

That is amazing, I wish we had some more back story on this. Some pictures of their stock would be cool as well.

I am assuming you only got the base unit no CD.

Without a doubt Rayman is a must cartridge based game.

Then is just depends on what type games you like. I regularly play Raiden, Protector SE (A Defender type game that is much better then Defender 2000 for this system), and Atari Karts.

If you can afford it get the CD attachment. Downfall is a free game that is a blast to play. There are other free games and demos that can be downloaded.

I may get the CD add on in a month or two, but from what I heard these have a high failure rate?

It is going to be a wild experience next week opening a 'new' Atari Jaguar. nuts.

Oh, Best Electronics said the Jaguar comes with a 90 day Atari warranty. How would Atari even honor this?

I think Best Electronics may fulfill the 90 day warranty... I couldn't imagine otherwise why they would suggest it. The Jaguar CD is pretty cool... mine was perfect for the 7 years I had it so I don't know about high failure as much as more apparent failure in recent years. VLM is awesome and you'll get to play several interesting unreleased games such as Caves of Fear, Varuna Forces, Black Ice/White Noise, American Hero... not to mention the released games like the very cool Cybermorph sequel, Battlemorph!

I almost forgot about the pack-in games on the JagCD. Blue Lightning (didn't age well but was fun to play back in 95, one of the first games I finished on the Jag) and Vid Grid was alright. You'll want to check out Iron Soldier 2 if you like the first one and the brews you can buy or download that are fun to play like Superflydx, Downfall. It's a shame you can't readily find Gorf anymore, that was a fantastic port.

Other suggestions:

Iron Soldier
Ultra Vortek
Zero 5
Defender 2000
Missile Command 3D
I-War
Power Drive Rally

I would recommend getting a rotary controller for T2K. It makes the game much better to play!

Yes, they do, but most of the problems that happen with them (ie. stuck spindle) are easy to fix. Now, whether or not they're worth the price you'll most likely end up paying for it is another matter. It's the easiest way to be able to play the latest homebrews, unless you can manage to find a Skunkboard. If you do get one though, get a Memory Track cart, you'll need it for saved games.

I think Best would honor the warranty, but I personally haven't dealt with them in years. You'll probably want to ask them about it for clarification.

Get Super Burnout, it's significantly better than most of the games that have already been suggested.

Welcome to the club. The Jaguar is a great system and doesn't deserve its reputation..... unless its reputation is one of greatness.

Wolfenstein, Power Drive Rally, Zool 2 and Canon Fodder are some good titles that I didn't see mentioned. I would recommend just typing some games into Youtube and seeing what you think of them.

I think the rotary is overhyped and overpriced personally. ;) I grew up in the 90's playing Tempest 2000 with the regular old pad and grew accustomed to playing that way. Rotary felt really awkward to me and I did not play as well. Instead spend your money on good games. ;) I had only 7 games for the Jaguar throughout the 1990's and they are still my favorite 7 Jaguar games. :)

Cybermorph
Doom
AvP
Iron Soldier
Zool 2
Wolfenstein 3d
Tempest 2000

You can't go wrong with these games! Super Burnout would be my next favorite game.

As far as the cartridge based games it realy depends on what type of games you like. But ...here is a list of all types of games that is great for the jaguar cartridge. If you like rpg's Towers 2 is a must DOOM,Rayman is great game on the jaguar Iron soldier 1 and 2.As far as fighter games Fight For Life is a must realy shows the 3d pentitual the jaguar has IWAR is a good game has a good plot to it.For simulation type games Syndicate is a good game ofcaurse pick up Wolfenstien 3d .For sports try Brutal sports football haha, and checkered flag it is a good game it catches a bad wrapp becouse of the handleing but after you master that the game is fun as hell. And the jag CD unit to me is a must it has some great games on it and some good homebrew games. So if you want to get the whole jaguar exp the jag cd is a must bro i know it is costly but worth it.As far as the bad wrapp on the cd units i have had mine for along time and never had any problems with it.I hope you enjoy your first jaguar and may your first experience with it be a good one ^^.

I like pinball fantasies, but the fact is that I had Obsession on my STe, and *any* other pinball game pales... its music, its smoothness, ahhh!

I also bought my Jag brand new in box from Best Electronics, worth every penny. :)

Yes its Best Electronics that honors them. I contacted them about it when I thought my new Jag from them was buggy(got a LOT of static lines across the screen when playing), they told me that if their suggestions on fixing the problem didn't work to ship it back. Didn't need to as the suggestion of rerouting the RF cable did the trick. :P Love my Jag by the way, doesn't get as much play as some of my other systems, my TG-16 is getting lots of attention right now :D, but I plan on changing that soon and getting some more titles.
