I found this post funny for some reason. Nothing mcgrail said or anything, just the way people are about overseas shipping.
I too, sell on ebay, and I *DO* ship overseas, but there are some inconveniences to doing so. For one thing people often don't realize just
how much it can cost to send something overseas via Air mail (usually 4-7 days) and the next affordable rate can often take up to 2 whole months to arrive. :-/
Bidders are often shocked and sometimes not willing to follow through, when I inform them that shipping is $75-80 on a that system w/games!
Then there's issues with accepted payments, not everyone uses online payment services like Paypal or Billpoint, and foreign checks and even money orders are not always easy to cash, depending on the bank there could also be added fees.
And of course there's always customs' fees, which the buyer wants you to fib on the form so they will be out of, not exactly on the up and up, but I generally agree. Anyone from Canada here, never asked a US seller to check 'gift" and value under $15 dollars?
And there are other things as well. Things like packing supplies, where priority mail boxes are free, as long as you use Priority mail, some sellers sell predominately that way and don't wish to buy materials for other rates.
Language barriers sometimes can scare sellers. I've had my share of weird are confusing emails from people in Singapore and Japan. Most of the bidders I've dealt with from Germany use pretty fluent Englishoddly enough.
And sometimes it's just the hassle of figuring out a total shipping charge. Alot of sellers have flat fees, especially if the sell similar sized items. They know the can ship anywhere within the US and not go over the $5 mark. But overseas varies from country to country, so it's harder on them to know how to quote the shipping.
But it's worth it to me. I enjoy it! I've meet lots of neat people all over the world, and I'm not selling to get rich, only as a hobby, same with my game collection. So it's worth it to me in the end.
One thing you might want to do/try, I'm referring to you people not in the US wanting our games, Is to try emailing the sellers before hand, and letting them know you have paypal, are a quick payer, and that Air mail shipping on a package that size is typically X amount. I've had success, on ebay.co.uk and ebay.co.jp etc. It doesn't hurt to ask. Some people just down state so in their description, but are more than willing, if they think it'll help raise the price alittle.
OK sorry to jump your post mcgrail, just venting my own personal rant. I'm tired of hearing people complaining about this.
