2. Stand your ground. Don't always turn away from enemy fire. It seems to me that, even if a tank shoots at you, if you blow them up before you are hit, you will not sustain damage. I'm not sure that is true, but I've noticed, once I've blown up an enemy, that square that was coming my way does not do anything to my tank. Also, you can blow up an enemy cannon coming your way and save your tank.

Right about the enemy shots: kill the tank, and the shot coming at you disappears. [It's in the manual]

Improvement by 1 New score 64

once you get to 60, the tank shoots really really fast. I had 3 guys left any score was 60 but It was raining and the tank was shooting about 1,000 mph

When I reached 64, I had four tanks left. Enemy fire became so intense that I lost all 4 tanks in rapid succession without scoring another point!

@ Frostbite, great job on breaking the 70 barrier!! You're almost in Twin Galaxies territory now

I have a question ---- In this thread, 76 is listed as the top Twin Galaxies score. However, the old thread from Robot Tank's previous appearance in the HSC shows Todd Rogers as scoring 144!! Was that an error, or was his score disqualified for some reason? :ponder:

I was wondering the same thing. I wouldn't doubt Rogers would have an insane score like that, though.

Thanks! I played the game a couple hours after my 64 score. I kept getting scores in the 60's. 63, 64twice, 66 and 68 but on my final try I got 71. I only had 1 life left with a score of 65, so I didn't think I was going to get that 70. The part that pisses me off is I hit that damn tank and should of had 72 plus an extra guy but tank decided to cheat, lol.

Once you get the 5th badge you should only attack the tank in perfect condition and during the day. Otherwise you don't stand a chance.

I just had a game of only 46 tanks, but it was a best start ever.

I had 21 tanks before day two was over and I cleared 3 squadrons before my tank took its first hit.

And then things went downhill, as usual, but it was fun while it lasted. :)

Patch Challenge - Cross of Excellence - Defeat 5 Squadrons, 60 Tanks

64

FOG DELAY, I thought I could handle it... :| Wrong!

The tanks shoot 5 at once, it's impossible unless they let up on you...
I tend to drive backwards, but it doesn't help much at all.

Seems like luck and swirling around to score any by this point.

Tell me about it. Once you've earned the the 5th badge, it becomes almost impossible to servive. They shoot and move so fast, it's luck if you hit them. The game goes from being somewhat of a challenge for me to impossible once I hit 60.

70
Patch Challenge - Cross of Excellence
I played every single weather condition except for SNOW. All this in 7 days.
I was playing the 6th set of tanks, in THE DARK too!

It might be easier in the dark?? maybe the enemy tanks firing isn't as accurate?
I don't mind the dark as my shots seem random when they hit anyway... I just hold the button down...

I tried playing all smart and full of strategy for about (8) games after getting '70'. I did NOT do nearly as good... 67 was my next best effort. I just realized that the last 4 TANKS and especially the last 2, in each round shoot like maniacs!
I didn't even notice before :x

The better I get the hang of my controls, THE WORSE I'M DOING!!...
the game gets harder and harder, I don't get it. My last 2 games was 2/3 squadrons,
completed...maybe I'm tired... but damn. :(

How Robot Tank played out, "4 years ago"... I found myself in the old rankings here!,

I missed this game the first time around, I see but I found 4 players of Robot Tank who are active, in season 9 standings.

lol, I just got 71 again. That's the 3rd time I got that score :| Seems like the last tank is impossible to kill because it won't stop shooting. Everytime I try to shoot it the damn thing shoots the shot down.

Here are my scores notice a trend

1. 71 3x
2. 69
3. 68 3x
4. 66 2x
5. 64 4x

Also, the better I play the worse the weather gets. I just had a great game my score was 65 and had 5 guys left but it snowed for 6 straight days. That shit only happens when you play your best.

Got the hang of this now. Along with Miss 2600's tips before, here are my...

AWESOME MEGA SUPER ULTRA GET THE SUPER MEGA PATCH TIPS COOL

1. Make sure you read her tips first.

2. Hold the fire button DOWN unless you're focusing on backtracking. Don't let up on that trigger, it can save your life because it sure saved mine. In later levels I had to have struck a kabillion shots thrown at me.

3. DO NOT bother fighting during night, as someone already mentioned, but also DO NOT bother fighting in any weather conditions OTHER than rain. If you suddenly come into one of them, especially snow, just backtrack, paying attention to the enemy on the radar and keeping them up above you. Once it gets clear or rains AND it's light out, go for them. Rain is the easiest to keep the enemy in line. Snow is worthless, and fog is about as hard even though you can steer.

4. Fight from around 7AM until 6PM, spend the rest of the time backtracking. No need to hold down the fire button when you do. Your wrist is going to hurt after all of this!

5. In later levels, a number of the tanks you face do not fire initially. Make sure you quickly hold left or right, sight them up on the radar, and come forwards guns blazing. You'll catch them quickly before they shoot.

6. DON'T GIVE UP! Even with no radar, and even sometimes with slow turning, you can still manage to nab tanks. Get daring at that point, because when you beat a squandron you get a free one.

7. And the BIGGEST tip of all? You can basically steer your shots. Your AIMER is key to hitting enemy tanks. If you fire, move to the right, and the bullet is in the aimer when the AIMER is on them, you get a hit. So in later levels, if you get stuck in a quick snow battle before you can retreat, fly back and forth and time that aimer!

As for me, doing good with my above tips! Here's my current high score. So bummed, I was so close to breaking 70 and getting the final patch!

And may I add that this voting is rather exciting to me. The winner seemed kind of clear at first, but with all the votes slowly coming in it's impossible to tell who's going to win. I'm eyeing up a copy of China Syndrome on the bay right now, so I kind of hope that one wins, even though I was rooting for Time Pilot earlier (used to love that in the arcades, and the 2600 port is top notch). I never got a chance to ever really play Syndrome and don't own it yet.

The problem with skipping night and only fighting in the rain or sun is that it makes the game very boring. When I get bored I start to play like crap because I lose focus. I have no problem fighting at night until I've earned my 4th badge. Same with the fog. Now fighting in the snow on the other hand is a joke.

The problem is even if I have 10 guys left I still wouldn't be able to kill tank 72. Killing tanks 70 and 71 is no walk in the park either. It feels like pure luck if you kill those 2. Jacob is right about the last 3 tanks in each round being pain in the ass to kill.
