Hmmm, I'm starting to get interested in this. At least it's less gimmicky than 3DS (A $250 DS with PSP-level graphics, three-dee, and an analogue stick? Whoop-de-doo).

I am a serious PSP fanboy, and own 50+ games for it. But lately, it's been all about the cheap or free iPhone/iPad games. And many of them look & play fantastic! I want to get excited about a new Sony handheld, but I'm just not sure I'm ready to pay $40 bucks a game again... you know? I'm not claiming all the games are equal, but even big games by EA and Square Enix are cheap in the App store. What is the future of handheld gaming? Is it the cheap smart phone games...or the dedicated console like the Vita/3DS? Is it both?

For me iphone gaming is only enough to fill spare time while waiting for my food, waiting in line, while driving (kidding). I don't consider it to be on the same level as the PSP because of the lack of buttons. I can play an iPhone game if it has two or three on screen buttons, but any more than that and I start to press the wrong ones. When I want to play real games, I need real buttons and a D pad.

As far as the iPad goes, I would consider that a serious contender to handheld games. With a larger screen comes more room to comfortably fit more on screen actions/buttons.

Overall I think they will coexist. I still see plenty of people buying DS/PSP games. Without looking at any real stats I would guess the handheld market is in no crisis due to smart phones or tablets.

I honestly can't see the "poke the thing" genre that supports iPhone gaming lasting too long.

I'd be careful of any trailer from Sony about how impressive their next out console is going to be. For instance in their trailers of how awesome the PS1 and PS2 were, they released footage of the consoles running pre-rendered video. And sure it was "Actual game footage" but not anything you'd see during actual game time in terms of quality.

I have watched actual game footage of tekken VS Street Fighter and the graphics are that good.

Yeah, their E3 method of showing the system off was to point a camera right at the screen while somebody played it. Looked very impressive.

Hopefully there is TV out on the Vita.. and it actually stretches the full-screen. If it does, I will buy it.

... but at the same time. With a quad core 2gHz processor (only 3 used in game)... and an OLED screen at 960 x 544 at 220 ppi. You cant go wrong. For all im concerned, my monitor is making it look worse than it actually is.

The Zune HD makes everything look gorgeous with its oled scren, and thats only 167 ppi.

If anyone should be accused of this, nintendo used an xbox 360 during their press release, making it seem like wii U graphics. After being caught saying, "well we thought the would be a good representation of how good it will look"

Though I do think the PS vita will have to fight more against mobile gaming than the 3DS. Seeing as the Vita is based on how powerful it is. Yet a year after its release phones will be twice as powerful, seeing as the phone technology is increasing at such a high rate. Though I think companies will be willing to invest a good amount into a game for the vita, where as they dont want to invest in much for the iPad, because theyll only get a dollar per sale, and if they make the price higher, it wont sell.

This holiday season they are trying to get games out there. They announced Mario Kart, Star Fox, and I think a Mario title. So theyre trying.

Perhaps in a later revision they will include it, much like the PSP.

Don't be silly, Sony goes in the opposite direction with respect to features.

I have always gotten Nintendo handhelds since the first Game Boy came out. Now I will get a PS Vita because the whole "play games in 3D!" aspect doesn't really appeal to me. That, and the 3DS doesn't have Sound Shapes on it.

I think the PSVita will do very well, I want the WiFi model (think that's what most people want too ?). Hope to see a GTA IV series game, maybe a new one just for that system like Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (did later come out for PS2).

I wouldn't mind seeing a top-down GTA game like Chinatown Wars.

They did the same thing with the PS3. As much as I love my Sony consoles I take everything I ever hear or see from Sony with a grain of salt.

If they have the Killzone game around launch, then I may pre-order it if I have the spare money. But between now and then, a decent amount of games are being released that I'm looking forward to like, Resistance 3, Skyrim, Dark Souls, Arkham City, Deus Ex, and of course Metal Gear Solid HD Collection which I will without a doubt purchase. Then again I've never pre-ordered a system before either, but the Vita is looking mighty tempting.

I'm really excited about the psp2 (i hate its new name). its got 2 anolog sticks. I dont know about you guys, but i really liked the psp's anolog... Uh i guess its not a stick but whatever you call it, I like it. Now they are putting in better anolog sticks! Now I will be able to move the dang camera in games.

I'm also excited about the games that are gonna be on it. Didnt they have a copy of mgs4 running on it before? (I bet it wont run anymore cuz they cut the ram back to 256 mb instead of 512. I want 512 dangit!) its very powerful for a handheld, and they were saying that the 3ds was powerful...
