I hadn't checked the list of Jaguar games in the AA rarity guide for a while, and decided to cross reference it against my own, and though I have a few things that aren't on this list (homebrews and prototype repros, et cetera) I can only find two on the AA list that I +don't+ have: Mad Bodies, and Skycopter.

Now on the latter I seem to recall I gave up on getting this because it was ridiculously rare, overly expensive, and a pretty bad game. I recall it being from the same people as Speedster II, which I do have, which is a total bore. I think both were made for Jaguar arcade cabs in the lobbies of Wal*Mart stores (the screenshots from Skycopter seem to back that up).

Mad Bodies, I know nothing about other than I found a website from the developers that says it's out of stock, and a thread on this site describing the (hard) gameplay. Sounds like a cross between Breakout and Arkanoid to me.

I think the point of my post is, as something of a completist, should I go out of my way to get either of these titles? I've always used AA as my point of reference for "complete/incomplete" but one is a no longer manufactured homebrew (that does seem interesting) and one is a really bad/really rare game. Go out of my way busting my balls to get them and be complete, or go "ehh close enough" and let 'em slide?

I'd checkout youtube video's of them both, so you can at least see what the games are like.

IMHO neither of them are worth the trouble of hunting down, but others will probably disagree.

Skycopter definitely isn't.

Mad Bodies looks like it has potential, although it also looks hard to play.

But as noted, one is extremely rare and probably not worth the price, the other seems to be unavailable at any price.

My dilemma remains!

The AA database is about 10 years out of date and is something I would by no means use as a checklist, but it is a nice source of information for people coming into the community.

you really have to decide for yourself how badly you need these games, as you know why you collect better than anyone ;)

IMO there is no reason to try too hard to hunt down these games. Betaphasegames/Goatstore have purchased the rights and remaining inventory to speedster II and Skycopter II and have plans to make these available in the future at a pretty reasonable price. There is also plans for a reprint of mad bodies, but this may take time like most stuff occuring in the community. Unless you need them now I'd just wait a little bit :)

Mad Bodies is a weird one. You use your paddle to swat the bouncing planets or 'mad bodies' and keep them in the air while shooting at other objects on the screen to collect points, power-ups.

I bought it new for $80, kept it for a year, and tried hard to like it. I have nothing against the graphics, sound or general concept, but the problem is that the difficulty level starts at hard and becomes brutal after the first boss. The developers did state a couple of times they would posts some tips and cheats, but nothing came of it. I finally sold my copy on eBay for about $125 US.

I can't say I recommend buying it without trying it first at a Jaguar get-together or convention. I would put it on a par with something like "Attack of the Mutant Penguins"; some people love it, while others find it ridiculously hard.

In addition to the GOAT Store announcement regarding Speedster II and Skycopter II, take a look here:

http://www.betaphase....com/Store.html

I don't know what that means exactly, but it does appear there may be new releases coming.

I'd not actually seen Skycopter in action before, but I can tell you firsthand that looks like more fun than Mad Bodies.

Skycopter is a joke. Is that the same voice from Aircars?

Well I think that's it sorted then. If there's an offering of Skycopter inventory sold off at a reasonable price, I'll get one, and as for Mad Bodies, I'll want to see if it gets another print run and if not won't worry much about being incomplete since it came out after the Jaguar's death and there are other homebrews I don't own. As noted though, Mad Bodies is the only one on the AA list I don't have, but I think I can live with it rather than pay over $100 for one on eBay. :D
