The title says it all. If you had to chose one of the original ColecoVision arcade ports to receive a remake, which one would it be? Let's consider both 1st and 3rd party games. Do not forget to say why you would like to see that game remade.
And before someone mentions, "I would prefer original games or new ports" is NOT an option here. We are talking about remakes. :)
Just to have fun...

Well, since they're all great - that's a trick question, right? :)

Actually, if I had to choose one it would be Time Pilot. It's not so much the graphics or audio - it's the controls. The arcade version is a great shooter.

Yeah, trick indeed. I should have asked which game or "games" actually... It isn't that you need to pick a single game, it could be a short list.

Here are my picks:
Time Pilot - Coleco version is just too slow and choppy, and a stage is missing!
Gyruss - Sprite work is terrible, not a good port overall
Mr Do! - Another choppy moving port of a fantastic game
Zaxxon - It was great for the time, but it just doesn't look much like the arcade. And I love the original
Popeye - Another ok effort for the time, but Nintendo games are so refined that this just doesn't make the arcade justice, small details missing

I would vote for GORF, with the missing Galaxian level included, and Venture with some decent controls.

Here are my choices, in order of preference:

- Gorf (could be soooo much closer to the arcade game.)
- Buck Rogers (just about everything is choppy in this game. Could be done much better in CV.)
- Time Pilot (okay, I admit it, it could have been done better.)
- Popeye (Could use improved graphics.)

I'm surprised noone mentioned it, but: Frogger. The Parker Bros. version is incredible, don't get me wrong, but there are just a few small nuances that could be touched up on to make it even better. For example: More music (I kinda missed the additional stuff that's in the Genesis version, which is virtually spot-on), a few extra sound effects (like when the frog lands in the water, or the race cards going by), and even an opening screen.

I definitely want to see a completion of Bird Ass.. er.. Joust. Damnit, that review has me calling it that now.. The playable prototype seemed quite nice so far, but of course it needed more work and a lot of polish.

- Q*bert (he needs eyeballs, better sounds, and an arcade-like pryamid...not squashed to fit the TV screen.)
- Pepper II (Always a favorite, but I would love to see new backgrounds, new enemies, new characters to choose at the start, maybe even some new music! And what about a possible Warp level? :) .)
- Zaxxon (great game, but I agree with opcode on the graphics.)
- Mr. Do! (still gets played quite a bit, but the game could be improved with the choppy gone.)

Pacman Collection with a "sprite" driver à la Atarisoft's pacman.
Pitfall 2 Arcade with Better graphics closer from Arcade.

:D

I'm kidding. As "I would prefer original games or new ports" is not an Option and as it seems to concern only ARCADE port already existing on Colecovision.:( I would choose :

Donkey kong Junior (including all level , and seing what you did with DKA... i think it worth a Remake!)

Tapper (one of my favorites games on colecovision, but i would love to see an "opcoded" version)

Buck Rogers (i like a lot that game, but i was dispointed by the colecovision version )

and let say Moon Patrol , not really for the game itself because i find the Atarisoft prototype version really good , but just to see opcode's rendition of the game.

:)

Hi. :)

There are many CV games that could need a "facelift".

But if there will be changed on the graphics and gameplay in the following games Iwould buy them again:

Gorf (Graphics - details - missing Galaxian stage).
Also slow to start up the next level/stage. would be nice with the synth speech i a newer CV2 version in the future.

Popeye (graphics - details)
A better graphical version (multicolor) would be nice.

Gyruss, Fantastic game, just broke my own record again (164.400).
But a more sliding movement and more close to the original would be nice too.

I do not know if the games can be better with our current CV, but maybe the new SGM and a future CV2 will probably be able to handle it. :D

Q*bert Some polish on this fantastic port would be great. Eyes for characters like purenergy said. I would like to see a Wrong Way and Ugg instead of just 2 Wrong Ways.
Gorf
Joust with sound

Well, that's kind of understated, any way you look at it. I mean, do we really need a better version of Gateway to Apshai, or Fathom, or 2010 The Graphic Action Game, or WarGames? :)

I don't think this counts as an arcade port but One on One Basketball. The characters are just so. . . UGH.

Slightly off-topic, but still, excellent suggestion, IMHO.

+1 for you. :)

EDIT: And I would like to add one more title to my list: "Star Wars - The Arcade Game". The CV port is very nice and lots of fun, but it could be done better, especially the opening Tie Fighter wave.

Why not? there are lot of non arcade game on colecovision that could deserve a remake.

Smurf rescue in gargamel castle. (ok i made smurf challenge, but that's not a remake)
Bc'Quest for Tire
and why not Fathom or Wing War .

Well, I'll add a vote for Joust - that is just crying out to be played - but unfortunately no-one can hear it (pun intended).

In terms of a remake of a commercially released titles I'd have to say Time Pilot and Mr. Do! (although in the latter case I still love the CV port - I would just like to see it closer to the arcade original).

I would vote for Joust big time, I used to play the atari one all the time until I finally got a copy of the colecovision one. I love the colecovision one but without the sound it just doesn't feel right.

I never really played games in the arcade I just played them on colecovison so I didn't know about all these missing screens and things like that.
There is one exception, I played Dig Dug non stop when my parents took us to Vegas to visit our grandparents. They would bring cups of quarters to us and we would play arcade games while they were gambling. AHHH the good old days when parents could leave their kids and not worry about predators.

I kinda hate the one on colecovision mainly because it is not very responsive when pushing the buttons to blow up the guys.

Then we have to recreate all the sounds by ourself, the guy "behind" that says he have the notes -never responded, when it was a hot issue back then.

They poked him many times but never heard from it since. :(

Wing War...was a game that we were used to show the friends when we wanted to laugh about their Atari or Vic20...still good to play and about the graphics it is perfect as it is..

Ok, here's my choices

- Zaxxon (Could be closest to the Arcade
- Gorf (Could be closest to the Arcade including the missing stage)
- Time Pilot (Could be closest to the Arcade)
- Buck Rogers ( Better graphics here please )
- Turbo (I admit it, that's a fine port, but only to see where Opcode could bring this one)

As said, if I were re-doing them, I would make them SuperGames, like Coleco had planned for their SuperGame Module, including some Bonus Stages etc not found in the Arcade version..

As for re-doind original games, I would prefer sequel instead, I do want to make sequel for Bc's Quest for Tires (Based on the gameplay of the 1st one) and a sequel to Montezuma's Revenge

Here's some original games that I would like to see a sequel:

- Tarzan
- Smurf Rescue
- Montezuma's Revenge
- Bc's Quest for Tires

And why not original sequel for Arcade games!?

OOHH sequels!!!!!

I would like the Sequel to Burgertime whether it is the Intellivision Diner or a new thought up Sequel
A sequel to Venture what would really be cool is a new version with a ton of different and exotic rooms but I guess a totally new concept could be cool as well.
