According to UPS my Atari Flashback 2+ should arrive today! I'll take pictures and of it and you can decide if it's a real or pirate console :)

Edit/Add: I did receive the Flashback 2+ and rest assured IT IS the real console :-)

For those besides me who ordered it was your seal broken off like someone opened it already?

Maybe they opened it to make sure it's the real console and not the pirated console?

It works perfectly! I still dunno why the box for it is soo huge?

Also I noticed it came out last year? How come I never seen these sold anywhere in department stores?

Thanks!

I got my Flashback 2+ today. I took some pictures of it, including some next to my Flashback 2 and my original Flashback.

Was your seal already broken on your box?

Yea I thought that was kinda weird, it seemed like they opened it to make sure it wasn't a pirate console possibly? :ponder:

It didn't look like it was used tho, just opened.

Right, it looks brand new, never used, never taken out of the box. Just not sealed.

Why? It's still far cheaper than what they were going for on Atari's site.

They bought the old stock from Atari. Maybe Atari needed money to pay rent?

How come the flashback 2+ was never sold in department stores? It came out last year so it's not too old.

That may be the case but there is simply to many sports games. I have never been a fan of the "realsports" series of games. I always enjoyed trash can football as many call it because its simplicity was so fun. I mean who cares how accurate in a sports sense it is so as long as its hours and hours of fun.

They should have named it "Flashback 2+ with sports"

As was previously stated, we were asked to do a limited run. It was originally for a cereal box contest from General Mills and Atari decided to have us do a small run for themselves as well.

The budget didn't call for re-licensing the Activision games nor the other games that turned out needed licenses as well. We had to replace it with titles Atari already owned that still fit in to the idea of themes, hence sports. Since it wasn't a re-run of the Flashback 2, we decided to call it the 2+ to denote the small increment.

wgungfu: Thanks for the info! Is there anyway to go back to the main menu w/o turning off and on the console after you are done with a game?

No, it's an actual 2600 on a chip, functions just like an actual 2600. The game menuing is on a separate system (Gizmo) from the actual chip, selecting a game simply "plugs the cartridge" in to the 2600.

Oh ok that's what I figured when a google search was unsuccessful, lol...the only thing I found was a code to access the secret game menu with the 3 extra games :)

That's sux that there isn't a reset button. I would imagine it could be modded to do that but the only mod's I found are the actual 2600 cartridge slot mod.

No, not any more than a regular 2600 could be modded to reset. It would still require powering on and off the system.

I got mine yesterday as well, the joysticks seem much better than the FB2's.

What I mean by trash can football is Atari's original football which should not have needed any additional licensing fees unless I am mistaken as I am not in that kind of market. Adding Homerun would have been good to.

I'm curious... does this version correct the scrolling issue some of the games suffered from in the FB2? (Asteroids Deluxe/Space Duel to name a couple)

Sweet... I have temporarily moved, and all of my Atari collection is in storage until November. I was walking through a local thrift shop, and they had a Flashback 2+ with all the bits (minus box). I bought it and was able to play Missile Command on "real hardware" for the first time in months!

This is on catchoftheday.com.au for $80. Wonder why the huge markup.
