Hey all, I usually frequent the 2600 boards, never played a 5200 or 7800 in my life, never even seen one to be honest... have been thinkin of grabbing one or the other from E-Bay, prolly the 7800, seems like the btter system, plus the backwards compatibitly, but... the same sound chips as the 2600?? It seems the 5200 may be the btter choice, nicer sound, only slightly less bad graphics...

Main point, What are the best emulators out there for me to test drive some 5200/7800 games on before I decide to purchase yet ANOTHER console.
Mainly I'm lookin for good emulation (of course!) so that I can be getting a good representation of what these game will play like on a real system.

I use MESS for 7800 emulation. Seems to be pretty good. It's a little different than most emulators since you need the console ROM in addition to the games roms.

I think you could make it yourself, would save you time and money.

There is no comparison real vs emulated for 5200. The 5200 have horrible analog joystick, in emulation you will probably use digital joypad or keyboard, in real system you will use original joystick, which is not that great.
So, you will get used to playing with PC joypad and say, this is not bad, but with real system you will find out how BAD the joystick is.
In 7800 the joystick would not win any awards also, it's awkward to play with.

Now, the games I enjoy playing on 5200 are Centipede and Missile command with 5200 trackball, it's perfect.

What is with people buying emulators/roms from EBAY? Or anywhere for that matter? Learn something people, you can download and burn yourself if you insist on going that route, please stop keeping Ebay criminals in business. That Ebay seller also has MAME rom sets, how does HE get away with selling ROMS when other auction get pulled that are totally legit?

Google "dcisozone" first link will give you what you bought from that Ebay seller and more, just download and burn to CDr.
