I'm really interested in getting a lynx. However, I'm not getting it to collect for it, I want to get it for gaming. I love handhelds, and the atari lynx looks like a great handheld for me. I am overwhelmed though by the amount of interesting games- Battlewheels, Blue Lightning, Chip's Challenge, Klax, Rampage, Stun Runner, Toki.. Not to mention all the awesome-looking homebrew stuff I saw!

I just want to start with maybe 2 games or so. I figured that asking at these forums would be a good idea.
So, if I got 2 games to start with, which 2 games would you guys recommend? I am just looking for fun games with a high replay value :)

Welcome to the board! Good choice to play some Lynx :)

The games I played the most were Tod's Adventure in Slimeworld & Crystal Mines 2. An action and puzzler. The content of these games is surprisingly huge

Xenophobe. Yastuna 2. Checkered Flag. Steel Talons.

Really just two, with fun and high replay value? Hmmm. Xenophobe and Steel Talons.

Favourite homebrews are Y2, Lynxopoly and Cybervirus.

Welcome to the Lynx :) And itīs a hard question - it would be easier to give you a two-game list with titles to avoid lol.

Start with Xenophobe, Steel Talons, Checkered Flag, Xybots, they are all rel. easy to find and cheap to be had :)

My first were Steel Talons, Blue Lightning and Xybots. Not even a year ago. I even started a thread here thinking aloud what to get next etc and the people here were really helpful.

Don't have my Lynx anymore, but I always enjoyed Rampart.

Thanks everyone! I'll look at my local classic game store (they sell lynx stuff there.) to see if they have steel talons, xenophobe, slimeworld, and crystal mines 2.

Just out of curiosity, where is your local classic game store? There's nowhere around me I know of that sells Lynx games, except for a store a few hours away that gets Lynx stuff in once every few years.

Mostly, I enjoy the puzzle games on my Lynx: Blockout, Ishido, Shanghai, Qix, Rampart, Klax.
Other easy affordable titles I liked are: Robotron, Zybots, Gates Of Zendocon, Kung Food, Joust, Turbo Sub, & Xenophobe(listed last as it's a bit pricier). :)

Welcome to Atari. Ms. Pac-Man is one of my personal favorites, but not if you are looking for super amazing graphics and sound. I just like it. :)

In fact... I think these titles are available through the AA store brand new for $2.95

No love for Battle Wheels? Outstanding graphics and a rather low price tag (or is that just on this side of the pond?).

I went to the store, and they sadly didn't have any of those games :(

They had 8 lynx games, only ones I remember were Hydra, Batman, and Shadow of the Beast. I think the rest were ones that were awful, one of them might have been Kung Food but I just don't remember. They also had Jag stuff, but it was a bit overpriced so I didn't get any.

They had a Lynx 2 for 70$, but the buttons and dpad were a bit worn down, I think, and the guy at the counter said they've had the lynx for 5 or 6 months, so I think if I go back in a few weeks to see if they got any new games and see if they will drop the lynx price a bit, it will still be there.

Hopefully they will have some of those games you guys reccommended when I go back!

If you saw Hydra at the store, that's a really good arcade conversion. But don't pay too much for it, it's extremely cheap online, we're talking a couple of bucks for a brand new copy. Same with Xybots and Steel Talons. Keep in mind that there were alot of overproduced games for the Lynx, but many of them were good games as well. So it's relatively easy to get a handful of good playable and brand new games for little investment. The LYNX is an excellent system to collect for due to this fact.

Of the ones you saw, I'd recommend Kung Food the highest. :)

Really? I heard that Kung Food is awful, Batman is good but too hard, and Hydra and SotB are awesome.

Kung Food is awful. In fact, I consider it pretty mean to seriously advise someone to get that game, because it's one of those games that's so awful, if it was your first game, or one of your first, you'd think the LYNX was a total piece of crap and that all of us here are a bunch of lunatics.

Well itīs not the best to start with. Itīs one of the maybe half dozen Lynx games that everyone in the world who has ever had a Lynx seems to have no good opinion about. Tournament Cyberball or Pit Fighter being other strong candidates for the boo list. HArd Drivinī , on the other hand, Iīve found myself playing it a lot.

Most if not all other Lynx games you may ever find you cannot go wrong with :)

What's it called? I used to live near that area (an hour south). Would be cool to check it out next time I visit family... or the Greek Festival... or the Arcade Expo...

That's how I got mine for five bucks. It had been wasting space in a pawn shop for months. They nearly paid me to take it away when I bought their CDX.

It's all good, I know I like my fair share of stinkers. Seriously though, I would not want a newbie to the Lynx to play Kung Food as his first game, when there's just so many more of equal price out there that are awesome games. To me Kung Food is just a collection piece. I understand where you're coming from though, I mean I like Lynx Pit-Fighter, and has been mentioned, that's a stinker in most people's view. I don't think I'd recommend that one as a first buy either.

Hard Drivin' is not the best choice as the first few games. Steering is very challenging because it was designed with analog wheel, not with D-pad. SO it's too easy to drive off, over correct trying to get back on road, and end up losing lots of time. Also it's very hard to play with manual transmission.

Once you get the hang of Hard Drivin's hard to steer mechanics, the game becomes rather easy. One time I went over 10 laps straight without using brake or going off road. I don't think the flashing TEMP light ever did anything to the car.

Rex Dart- Its called Player One Video Games, but I'm not sure how much lynx stuff you would find- the guy said the lynx stuff had been sitting there for 5 or 6 months, and seeing as there's only a lynx and 8 games (I actually think the 8 games might even come with the lynx) I'll probably clear it out when I go again later next week. However, they did have a boatload of both boxed and loose 2600, 5200, and 7800, and consoles of all 3. There was also a jag and maybe 4 or 5 games with it.

Edit-
In the way of non-atari stuff, there was all nintendo things, even virtual boy. There was all sega things, MS, Genesis, Game Gear, Nomad, Saturn, and DC. There was Wonder Swan, WS Color, Neo Geo, Neo Geo Pocket Color, a BUNCH of japanese imports, and a handheld console I had never heard of before that was portrait like the game boy, but hugely bulky like the Lynx 2. edit- found on google, its the NEC Turbo Express.
