Hello everyone! As the topic title says, I'm considering upgrading to a newer version of the PSP. I have the 1000 model, and while I do like it, I am interested in some of the features that the 2000 and 3000 versions have. I do not have any interest in hacking my PSP, so that should not be a factor. Also, I don't plan on buying a Vita or 3DS anytime soon; this will likely be my main handheld/portable media console for the next few years. The main things I am interested in are:

-TV Out
-64mb ram instead of 32mb
-stiffer D-Pad (I like to play a lot of fighting games. The 1000's D-Pad is kinda... bad)
-faster loading times (?)

If anyone has these versions of the PSP, how do you like them? How do they hold up to the original model, and are the improvements and weaknesses worth it?

Thank you all for your time!

I had a 1000 since day one. Earlier this year I traded it.

My girl wanted on again, so I got a new 3000 cheap on Ebay. LOVE IT! Worth every penny! I also dig the TV out, brighter more colorful screen. The buttons are nicer and its thinner....Too many positives.... I dont have any complaints

Thanks for the reply! I didn't even consider the screen, that's great too! Does Gamestop sell decent used consoles (never bought a used one there)? If not, I have no problem with buying locally from someone, or off of eBay.

I like my 3000. It greatly redeemed the system in my eyes. I saw the 1000 back in 2005, and I didn't like it at all. The screen was a ghosty mess. I love the 3000's screen. It's 100% worth it. It's super crisp, and I have never seen any ghosting.

The TV-Out functionality sucks unless you have a HD TV (preferrably a big one). Just a FYI.

I think it's worth it if you play a lot of fighters. I normally do, but the dpad on my 1000 is so ****ing worthless that my system just sits in a basket. If the damn dpad worked, I'd be playing CPS2 roms non-stop.

I don't get what the issue is with the 3000's screen. I have only briefly played with ANY PSPs, and I didn't notice much of a difference, as I have HEARD about (3000 screens).

I noticed that on Amazon.com, a new PSP 2000 is $235 and a new PSP 3000 is $130 so there better be one hell of a difference, eh?

I still stand by my 3000. I remember how bad dark games looked due to bluring on my old psp. But now they are a delight to play. I can see everything.

Hmmm... The potential screen issue does seem to be a concern, but if not many people notice it, it should not be too much of an issue... I guess I'll go with a 3000.

If you want to run emulators or anything, I'd get a 2000. I have a Darth Vader model I purchased on eBay that already had a custom firmware for under $100, which you may want to do if you decide to choose that route.

There are always hacks on every model. If it aint out it will be..:D

I dont really care to much about the emus right now...got too many real games to play!

And I got my 3000 w/Patapon 2&3 a 4 gig mem card and all cables and such for $93 off ebay 3-4 months ago. Best part about it was the guy just bought it 3 weeks prior new, So its was mint. I couldnt pass it up. And my girl loves her patapon!

I believe every firmware, even the current firmware, has a Pro or B4 or something CFW available for it.

Does the 2k system support TV out? As for the 3k, the only objection I have with the screen in the interlaced tearing you see if anything rotates or moves very fast. I'd take the blur of the older 1k screen over it. Pluss the 1k looks better colorswise, the 3k just looks artificial.

Oh, the TV out thing, you get a letterboxed image with thick black lines all the way around the system when you play games. Pretty dissappointing IMO, but if you get a big TV, a tv with a stretch feature, or use a projector I suppose it's OK.

Huh well I play Wpeout Pure...fast moving game. And Loco Roco.....lots of full screen rotating and I have not noticed anything. In fact I can play all those hard to see in the dark "Silent Hill" type games now without the eyestrain.
And NO I would never go back to the EVIL BLUR of the 1000. NEVER!

I really cannot give you the color better on the 1000 tho. Ive had mine(3000) side by side (1000 or 2000) and you can tell the burst of color the 3000 have over them.+ the 3000 seems brighter too. But maybe thats just the color popping from my 3000 screen.:D

So Its up to you I guess on what you like.
But I got my whole family here that loves the 3000 over our previous models.

Composite + component support for audio/video, only component out for gaming.

Own a 1000 and a 3000. Love the 3000 and the 1000 model hardly has seen any use for several years now.

I'd like to get a 3000 when I have more money. There's an incredible RPG library to tap into among other things. I would like to see one more price drop, however.

I've been working a lot lately, and I have a lot of PSP games I'd like to get around to playing, so I'll probably head into town tomorrow and pick up a 3000. Thanks all for the feedback!

PS, does anyone know what Gamestop offers for PSP 1000 trade ins? Just curious, it's always nice to save some cash, and I really only need one.

Since they sell them for $89, my guess is between $20 or $30 trade in. Maybe $35 or $40 if you're lucky, but I think that's pushing it. Probably best to just sell it here if you don't mind the wait.

That's a good idea, I don't mind waiting. Sometimes I get overly anxious when buying new things :D Thanks!

I'm kind of curious to see if you can play ISOs on the Vita without much fuss. It'd be worth knowing before making a decision on a current-gen PSP.

I just picked up my new PSP! It's a 3000 model, lightly used, and it's silver! My thoughts so far:

-Very much lighter. This surprised me the most, it's very, VERY, much lighter than the 1000 series.

-The d-pad is INFINITELY better than the 1000 series (Darkstalkers is playable!)

-The finish is great, much less fingerprint-prone than the 1000 series.

-No screen issues (yet), but the color is more vibrant than the 1000 series.

It all seems great so far, thank you all for the great responses!

Have fun! I pick up a 1000 now and it feel like a heavy, blurry POS to me now.
