Smart Phone games are highly overrated. I know lots of people with piles of them on their phones and don't play them, and the vast majority were "free (or demo)" Versions. Nintendo releasing their games on a smart phone simply doesn't make sense.

Now on the other hand...if nintendo made their own smartphone, or their next handheld had a smartphone built in, they'd mop up....hey, PSPgo's got phones built in and have seen a rerelease recently. We'll just have to wait and see how that does.

"Nintendo, you should totally go back to the minor league because you could win all of the ballgames there."
WTF? Spoiled Wii-vestors.

personally I don't care for smartphone games. at least not real games. maybe a puzzle at the airport. Gaming on smart phones is really just a fad for the moment.

I was thinking about this one more today, and the investors probably don't care one way or another. They'd like an announcement declaring smartphone development to drive stocks up so they can sell.

I don't think it's a fad, for the moment. The only way it's a fad is if smartphones are a fad. As long as there are smartphones, there will be a market for smartphone games - otherwise, I'd like to hear a reason WHY NOT?

But I agree - I don't care for smartphone games. But just because I don't, doesn't mean that other people don't; I can't assume that my tastes are representative of "the masses." These masses don't always appeal to quality, you know! (unfortunately)

The thing about fads is that you can't really say they're one until they die off. But a reason why they can be a fad even if smartphones aren't is that people CAN get tired of using their phones for games (especially if the majority of those games are crap with the few gems in the list extremely difficult to find.) while still using it for functional apps that serve a purpose.

They would still need a smartphone for those apps, so the smartphone can survive without games on it. That's your reason why not.

But I'm not saying they are definitely a fad. Time will tell. (But also keep in mind that games on smartphones don't have to completely die out for it to be considered a fad. If it suddenly goes from the popularity it has now down to a niche market - then you can still consider it a fad.

Lol, what I find highly amusing is that smart phones are doing to Nintendo's handheld market what Nintendo did to MS and Sony with the Wii.

Payback is a bitch isn't it? :P

No smartphones are no competition yet for handheld game systems. Until there are more systems shipped like the Sony-Ericsson Xperia Play, that has normal game control buttons. Don't know the sales on this model, but i guess if it isn't good, there won't be much company's interested in releasing such Game / Phone combo's.
You had the Ngage and that wasn't a big success either, even after the update, that didn't made you look like an idiot when calling.

You miss the point. Smart phones are for casual gaming using unconventional controls.... :ponder:

Unfortunately for Nokia, it was too little too late. The N-Gage itself launched at a good time, but by the time the QD hit, more powerful handhelds were out. It's too bad, as the later model was (and still is) a great little unit.
