The Box label says "PAL" but the Jag has a Red LED so must be an NTSC ONE!!!!

Should be very possible. The main thing that adds height to the CD unit is the daughter board between the Jaguar motherboard and the CD unit. I think that if you were able to soldier a ribbon cable directly from the motherboard to the daughter board and then another ribbon cable from the daughter board to the CD unit board (allowing the daughter board to lie horizonally between the two boards) you would gain an inch right there.

So that said, that is a lot of soldering.
