Hi everyone

Just to let you know that Chess Challenger is coming in 2012 !!
Who said it won't be possible to make a Chess game on CV? ;)

Anyway, that's one of the sweet project coming for the CV 30th Anniversary

This game was made from scratch, so a "completely" original game based on the unreleased game showed in the silver catalog

Here's a screenshot of the game :)

there was chess game on PET , VIC 20 and ZX 81 that worked with 1k to 4k. So chess on CV was definitly possible! :)

I thought at one point in time to port the 1k Chess from ZX81 to Coleco (as i think i have the commented source code in z80 somewhere.).. but i'm not fond of chess game in fact and board game on "screen" in general. So i prefered worked on other project.

But that's really cool to have one finally on coleco !! One more vaporware that is no more! Thank J-F ! :lust:

Indeed, looking really good.
In fact I wish there were more board games for the CV, from classic to strategy stuff...

Tremendous news J-F! We have so much to look forward to in the remaining months of this year and next year is shaping up to be as good or even better.

I don't follow the other retro console homebrew scenes, but I have to believe that the ColecoVision has the most and best support of them all. Since Kevtris was released back in 1996 on cartridge up until Puzzli a couple months ago, it's gotta be getting close to more Homebrew releases made than original releases from 1982-1985... if not, the next couple of months should take care of that!

The chess game looks great.....if I only knew the first thing about how to play chess.

Maybe checkers can be next! Remember the Activision checkers that took one hour for the computer to make a move on the hardest level?

This one should be fun to play with the Roller Controller. Will it have planes and satellites like Missile Command? Just wondering. :)

Does the programmer or programmers of these two games want to remain anonymous? I ask this only because the graphics and sprite style of Armageddon reminds me of someone from back in the day who produced some outstanding ADAM software.

Both these two games seem "made in France"... isn't it ?

There at least three chess games for ADAM.
One is Chess Champ by Digital Express. It plays an embarrassingly bad game of chess. To top it off, it takes a long time to be "thinking..." about the bad moves that it makes. Only one level.
Another is Chess Solitaire. You don't exactly play a game against the computer but play some Master games and try to guess the next moves. Not too bad actually and different. I think there are only 15 games to play with though.
The last is Modem Chess by Bonafide Software. It plays a much better game of chess and much faster. There is only one level though and that level is somewhat of a beginner level. Still, all in all, not too bad.

Will there be a savegame functionality in the cartridge? I hope so, because few people today have the time to play an extended chess match against a computer (or a human friend for that matter).

I've got a GameBoy Chess game, where if you want to save the game, it encodes the current status into a fairly long string of letters. Something like that might be able to work, if there's space available.

That's an excellent idea!
I'll talk about this with the programer of the game since we have some space left

We'll also implement a 2-Player mode too ;)
