Zelda Link's Awakening DX and Pokemon TCG are both Game Boy Color games. They have the black cartridge. Don't count here.

Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow are Original Game Boy games, say so on their retail box and do count.

Just wondering, but why does this matter?

BTW, Pokemon Yellow is technically a game boy color game, it has color data in the game and if it didn't have a yellow case, it would have a black one. If blue or red are played on the GBC, there is only one color pallette, but in yellow, each city has a different pallette, the pokemon and people are colored correctly, and the life bars are colored green yellow and red depending on how much HP you have.

It only matters because the original poster said black and white Game Boy games only. And while Pokemon Yellow has those additional palettes, those are simply copies of the Super Game Boy palettes it retains. It has nowhere near as much color as the Gold and Silver Pokemon games and the retail box says "Game Boy" whereas all the rest say "Game Boy Color" on the box's front cover. When you walk into a new town Ash changes color just like the rest of the town because it's still limited to monochrome.

Here ash and Pikachu are green

And here they are blue in Cerulean Posted Image

It's not full color and they change with their background area

I meant to say, why does it matter if its 8 megabit.

on pokemon yellow, During battles, the screen has more than a 4 color pallette on it, polywag could be blue whilst pickachu is yellow. It isn't like that on red and blue.

like this http://media.giantbo...eplay_super.jpg
there is more than a 4-color pallette on screen.

Um.. Because that's what the OP asked. So apparently it matters to him. Maybe he is curious? Hmm.. :ponder:

Yeah, even the Super Game Boy shows it like that is what I mean. Even Red and Blue can show more than four colors during battles, but only on the SGB. Basically what happens is the GBC is able to read the SGB programming for once because it was coded in Pokemon Yellow in a different way than previous Game Boy games. It was the final original Game Boy game to be manufactured as well, and the last one to only say Game Boy on the front-left edge of the box.

I think the reason he wants to know what games are 8MB is because he might be planning on running the games on a flashcart. Some particular flash carts have a compatibility limit. Another possibility is if he is hacking a game that might have to do with which rom he wants to use for his hack.

Then why doesn't Red and Blue have more colors on the GBC, none of the other SGB games that I've tried on GBC shows the SGB enhancements, so I think there is some GBC programming in Yellow.

He said because it was coded a different way in Pokemon Yellow.

Well, I don't know. This is starting to confuse me. So your saying that they programmed the SGB part to where the GBC will read the color code? They would have to program while thinking about the GBC, because if the GBC is reading the SGB data, wouldn't things get a little wonky if it tries to load the border into the GBC's memory?

They did program it with the GBC in mind as the GBC was already coming out in Japan while the game was being developed. They didn't give it the full color a normal Game Boy Color Game like Zelda DX or Pokemon Gold had though. Here's what I mean about the box covers:

Pokemon Yellow Box front shows it being for Game Boy:

Pokemon Yellow Box back says compatible with Game Boy Color

Zelda DX box front says Game Boy Color on it:

Zelda DX was also released in 1998 in the USA while Pokemon Yellow was released in 1999 in the USA

I was just curious as to how many games used the maximum amount of MBs for a Game Boy game.

Kirby's Block Ball is a 4 Megabit game, but Mortal Kombat I & II is an 8 Megabit game. So, the number of US Licensed non-Color Gameboy Games are 4/5 (WLII, MKI&II, PKB, PKR, PKY)

I noticed Japan got some more late GB releases (and even a b/w version of Game and Watch Gallery 2). I'm not completely sure, but I think the JP Samuari Shodown III(Nettou Samuari Spirits Zankuro Muskaden (sp?)) port may be 8 megs. There were also some b/w GB multi-game collections from Konami and Namco, but I'm not sure if those are 4 or 8 megs. The JP only Bomberman and GB Genjin (Bonk) collections may be 8 megs.

Edit: I just checked. Samuari Shodown III and the Hudson collections are 8 megs. The Namco and Konami collections are 4 megs.
