Shinobi is a great game on all sega consoles, but the SMS one was my first.

Anybody play the SG1000 games on the SMS with the Everdrive? How's that working out for ya?
The SMS should play them just fine since japanese ones had backward compatibility, a Genesis everdrive is what SG games won't work on, due to the trimmed down VDP. Although the second model SMS's have a different VDP as well, so it they may not work on those. (codemasters games only work on them due to them using a non-standard resolution)

my cousin had a Master System. I played a few games there. Somehow the game Jurassic Park on the SMS can never be erased from my memory. that car chase music in the last stage will haunt me my whole life.

On the other hand, Sonic the Hedgehog for the SMS was not a very good game in my opinion. I wondered how it became so popular.
I prefered Alex Kidd. I think prior to Sonic, Alex Kid was Sega's mascot.

also I played Bart vs Space Mutants and found it ultra hard. I marveled when my cousin reached the last level but could not manage to finish it at that time.

I saw some other games later in the shelves on stores (Phantasy Star, Rocky, Psycho Fox etc), wanted to but could not play them since I had already an NES, a Gameboy and an Atari 2600.

I'm the other way around. I love Sonic on the SMS, I much prefer it to the MD version. Sure it doesn't look as pretty, but in my opinion it's a better game.
And I dislike Alex Kidd (Except in Shinobi World)

I never had one growing up, but I did get a couple of systems and games in my 20s and have found the system a blast. I actually prefer Golden Axe Warrior over The Legend of Zelda. I also like Phantasy Star, Miracle Warriors, and Ys quite a lot. Wonderboy and Golvellius are just behind those.

I don't really have many memories of the SMS from "back in the day." I remember there was a friend who I thought must be rich because he had both and SMS and the NES (with R.O.B.). But the only couple of times I went to his house, we played NES or rode bikes all day. Just didn't mess with the Sega much.

Later in life, as I began to buy systems I missed out on in my youth, the SMS was one I bought. I remember playing quite a bit of Double Dragon, Enduro Racer and Shanghai. I didn't get a lot of games (although I seem to have bought the system from a Stallone fan, as it game with the games Rocky, Rambo, and Rambo III, lol).

ahh… Sega Master System memories…

I first got the console in the 7th grade (1989) from a fellow in math class for $30! he included several games, and the Light Phaser… I would then occasionally pick up games when I couldn't find something of interest on the NES while shopping… in 1991, my aunt, at my request, got me a SMS II for getting good grades and advancing to high school!

my favorites I played then…
Action Fighter
Global Defense
The Ninja
Wonder Boy
Out Run
Alien Syndrome
Phantasy Star
Spellcaster
Ys
Miracle Warriors
Golvellius
Rastan
Time Soldiers

today, these titles are my favorites as well as most any other game! I pretty much love any games on the SMS… with a few exceptions (Alex Kidd: High Tech World, F16 Fighting Falcon, Great Football…)

the SMS is one of my all time favorite consoles, and is still played regularly today!

and what is more odd… my impressions are on just the USA released games… I didn't have access to play the countless European titles back then… I only sampled several in the past 10 years, and have four European games in my library today… and look to add a few more! but even being limited to what Sega released in the USA, I can be content with those games alone!

another oddity, I prefer to play my SMS games with the original SMS controller… I find it quite fine and have 0 issues with it…

I think the only real drawback to the Sega Master System is the box art… aw man, some games covers just make me smh!! (Black Belt, My Hero, Pro Wrestling)
