hi there
a (silly?) question
I see on Collectorvision website the note this or that game will be also probably released in PAL format.
As european and being a collector of US games since the golden era ( when was a boy my father often in the US for biz trips and always back with some new game for Colecovision and Vectrex... ) I can confirm my european console was able to play ALL carts from US without any problem ( only exception was Bump'n'Jump ).
So..30 years later, may I know why some games should be released in NTSC and PAL and which the - technical - difference ?
I also never had problems with the tv-sets of the time ( those I use now for nostalgic reasons )...
Is the eventual production in PAL required by collectors or what ?
and then why this specification now with modern multi-system tv sets ?
thanks for reply.
MAX

(anyone interested to buy 2 DINA systems ? )

I think here it refers to the box "style".

NTSC boxes generally have a simple picture of the arcade cabinet on it.

PAL boxes have a nice atwork.

In matter of rom , generally a NTSC program will run with no problem on a PAL console (it could be a little slower).

But a PAL game you can not be sure it runs on a NTSC console.

For instance early version of my Smurf Challenge game was not able to run on NTSC , i had to strip down a little bit the game to make it works on both standard.

the advantage of the PAL format is that you have more time between 2 vertical sync. signal to code things.

If you refer to Collectorvision's site, yes, I think J-F talks about NTSC/PAL boxes when here in Europe we are more used to talk about Coleco/CBS boxes.
Nothing to do with the game which is the same version in both case.

Yes, I refer to the box style ;)

I now make a NTSC & PAL box for almost all releases to satisfy both American & Euopean CV fans

The PAL boxes will only display on a PAL shelf.
