Not sure if modern console is OK for modern PC games since there aren't separate PC game section. If there is a suitable sub forum, please move this.

2 sources, one usually very reliable.

Holy cow!!! Gamestop has the nerve to sell them as "new" when they all have been opened and had something removed. Since it is opened, I'd think it'd be impossible to return it for full refund even if they try to show proof it is missing something. Square Enix is probably screaming at FTC to investigate Gamestop.

If you or anyone you know are planning to get this game for PC, go any store except Gamestop.

I'd like to think that most of us already know better than to patronize GameStop...

Gamestop saying it won't sell any physical copies until Enix sends them non-coupon copies is very childish. I think Enix should just dump them as a seller.

+1 this. Either a dishonest employee keeping coupon to sell, or a dumpster diving hauling up bunch of coupons.

Either way, GS' PR is going to get a black eye for this one.

I never buy from Gamestop. Amazon and even Target are my best friends. :P
On rare occasions I'll check the criminal cesspool of ebay to find a trustworthy seller.

Gamestop pulled the PC version of Deus Ex from their shelves.

And it's going big -- this is on the front page of Yahoo right now:

http://games.yahoo.c...-234821510.html

Aperently it's just the coupon for the free OnLine version of the game that is being pulled, as GameStop has their own online digital service and sees OnLine as being competion.

Legal? That's a gray area. I can imagine right now phone calls and e-mails are flying back and forth between Square Enix and GameStop.

All this for a game that I heard wasn't that good. :ponder:

Typical GameStop bs. Leave it to them to run their business into the ground.

it's funny how that works. i shouldn't care, because i don't intend to play the game, but my first response was still outrage.

i guess my sympathies go with any gamer who paid full price for a game, no matter how terrible, and received less than what they were due.

And unfortunately I think ultimately Square Enix is going to have more financial lost over this debacle than GameStop which isn't right. I agree with what other people have said, you can't open a product and then sell it was new.

i don't know that that's the case - if i wanted the game and gamestop didn't have it, i'd get it from somewhere else.

I meant in terms of the copies of the games that they have already sold. Also this debacle is bad PR not only for GameStop but for Dues Ex as well.

So long as we know to patronize them intelligently it's good enough. I still buy from them but if it's new it HAS to be factory sealed. I'll bring a gutted copy to the counter if I want it and explicitly ask "Do you have this factory sealed." (ie: not opened. not re-sealed.) If they say yes, then no problem. If not, I take the game and put it back on the shelf and tell them "I'll find it somewhere else then, thanks."

They've lost probably 1000 dollars in sales, counting only the cases where I've explicitly asked them. There are plenty of cases where I'd consider buying it but not bother because I figure the odds of them having a sealed copy still are in the negative.

They also lose a lot of sales from their used games. As I expect a game to be at LEAST half off to consider it used. I don't buy into the 5 dollar off BS.

As such I'm mostly just picking from the liquidation bins from them.

*edit*

Additionally, this is the next level when you have enough people not caring enough about buying gutted games as new. Now that the sheep are conditioned to think it's ok to gut your product, the next step is to make sure they believe it's ok for the store to ALTER the contents of the gutted game while still charging and saying "it's new!"

I think the dept. store that usually has the best selection of new games Fred Meyer rather than target. They always have a big section dedicated to electronics, music cds and games. It's almost enough to compete with Gamestop as far as new sales go. Walmart had lots of games too but it's been a long time since I've been there. I think the main reason so many people shop at Gamestop is because of used games and close proximity.
