Well, I just bought another one from a garage sale, came with 8 or so games. and guess what. This one is going bonkers too. At least it works (somewhat) I have to look at the screen at a 45 degree angle with very very very little sound.

Most likely a capacitor problem, like the other one.

Well, I'm sick of this and I want to try and replace the caps on at least one of these 2 game gears. I have 2 questions:

1) Is there a place where I could get all the GG caps in one package, so I don't have to hunt down each individual cap?

2) How much should I expect to pay to replace all of them?

thanks in advance.

Just a note, I've got a Game Gear, and you also have to look at it at a 45 degree angle. I didn't realise this was a problem though, I've seen quite alot like this. I'd also like the know the answer to your questions.

Well I dont know what happened to my first one, but it just didnt start up one random day. And now my new one just got worse, I cant even see the screen anymore, regaurdless of angle or brightness, but it stays on and I can barely hear the sound.

I wanna play junction and pacman dangit!

It's a bad cap problem for sure. I recently fixed one game gear that had the same problems as you described, bought a game gear cap kit from ebay from a bloke in Belgium. And it worked like perfectly. I have 2 other game gears with the same problems, and for those i order loose caps at a dutch online electronics shop. Just be sure to get the right values same or higher, and look for the smallest possible because of the limited space inside. It's a fitly job but if done right it's so satisfying. Next thing i going to do is to replace the light blub from one with high power white led's.

As the others have said, that is definitely a capacitor problem. My GG was that way when I bought it, and I wound up sending it out to have all the caps replaced. Cost 25 bux, but it resolved most of the issues the system had, including the nearly-silent sound.

They don't have a kit but I ordered mine from DigiKey. It took a little bit, the person I got the right caps from helped me get the right sizes and values and were cheap to. Hope this helps. Got them pretty fast too

Who did you send it to? I have several dead Game Gears, and if I would happily pay $25 each to have them working.

The only place I found online was Console Solutions. Are they legit? Has anyone had any experience with them?

Yah, they were the ones I sent the GG to. No complaints on my end; I am rather pleased with their work. In my case, there was a slightly darker band in the screen that was not resolved by replacing the caps. It's fairly minor though and doesn't affect gameplay.

I fixed my GameGear sound caps here a few months back. However, replaced only 2 of the smaller 47uF ones. Heres my thread about it link
This page is very usefull if you're gonna go soldering a Game Gear Repairing a GameGear
In the end I just went to nearest electronics component store, got the caps and spent maybe an hour or two on the GG, part due to the fact that the solder had problem sticking to the PCB contacts. But other than that, the repair was rather easy.
The capacitors are rather cheap too, here in UK, i think i paid somethign like, £1.00 for a whole set of sound board Caps.

Make sure to catch a Leafs game while you're there AX. They'll win a game or two this year, I can feel it :D
