I might have to check this out. I really liked the original Choplifter, and I enjoyed the Sega Master System version too - really liked the ocean level with the ships.

is there a release date yet? News on the game is few and far between (though honestly, I'm not following it since it is an XBLA/PSN game).

All I've seen so far is Fall 2011, no definite release date.

konami is going to be the publisher on this title. I thought getting a publisher would be a no-brainer. still no release date yet.

That looks cool! And the original is included?

My only fear is......."KONAMI"

While Burgertime was average I thought that Frogger remake they released a few years back was horrible. I also thought Vandal Hearts was pretty lame. Playable but lame.

God I wish Broderbund were still around.

I don't know, I really like Konami and the stuff they published.

I agree, the game looks good. It looks like they kept the 'core' game play while adding a few new options.

I think the game was developed by inXile all on their own, Konami really just *publishes* it :)

Right, they seem to have picked some bad developers on their games so I could have said:

"Konami who hires crappy programmers or hires programmers but finds other ways to make them do bad games."

Although inXile did some good games so I am hopeful for this.

What I was trying to say is that inXile picked Konami to publish their game, not the other way round.

Really? Then hopefully they have the freedom to do a good game.

Something tells me you're really not going to like this new Choplifter HD then, since the Sega Arcade/SMS version is pretty much considered the definitive version of the game. This new one is clearly based on the Sega version going by the trailer, and not the original, boring, 4 color Broderbund Apple/Atari/Commodore version.

Just because you say it's the "definitive" version doesn't make it so.

Besides, Choplifter HD is a remake of Choplifter which I'm totally for. What I'm not for is saying that the Sega version is Choplifter when it's more of a remake than Choplifter.

And Dan Gorlin was a consultant for the new Choplifter HD. He's the guy behind the original Choplifter, not the Sega version.

Preview: Choplifter HD

"In fact, fans will be happy to hear that Dan Gorlin, the creator of the Choplifter franchise, is a design consultant on this game."
Looks like it has lots potential, should be fun! I'll be getting it on PSN.

This game is out on PSN today. They actually did a fairly decent job of keeping it faithful compared to a lot of other games. I'm not going to buy it but I never really liked Choplifter to begin with. Check out the demo if you might be interested.

I'll look into it when they drop the price to 600 points or less. Maybe a 50% off deal of the week in the future. I'm just done paying 1200 points ($15) for DLC arcade games.

Yeah thats too much money for an arcade type game. I was going to get it if it was 10 bucks or less. Even 10 bucks is pushing it these days for me.

Just downloaded the demo and seems pretty fun. Don't know if it's $15 worth of fun. Kinda on the fence about this one.

There is a demo on PSN. I tried downloading it, but the file is HUGE! Really surprising since its based on a classic.

Has anyone played it yet? Doesn't look all that much fun honestly.

I played it (took forever to download and install). Its a little too complex for my tastes when compared to the original. In this one you get missles, targets to destroy and other stuff which gives it a lot more depth but I prefer a simple one or two button experience like the original.

It's still simple but I prefer a really basic control structure or at least pack in the original game too. Which I don't think they did.

I dont understand why they just cant keep things EXACTLY the same and just put fresh paint on it. (Graphics\Sound) and simply charge a few bucks for it.
Not worth the effort? Nay I say!!

As it is, I'm not spending that much money on this. It's nice but give me the original along with it so I can just play.

Screw it I have MAME and blueMSX....

I picked it up on Steam and and have had quite a bit of fun with it so far. Choplifter is one of my all time favorite classic games, and I had assumed a remake would wind up like crap (as often seems the case) but I think they did a really good job with it. It does maintain the basic feel of the original, but it is a bit more complex with the added mechanics and the game starts to get quite frantic as you progress. Difficulty level is 'old school' hard, and it can get a bit controller chucking maddening if you are going for perfect five star scores as you progress through the levels. :)

Just saw this in a review:

"Some games are just hard games to start with, but the type of difficulty seen in the likes of Ninja Gaiden Black depends on tight controls and increases in player skill rather than the pattern learning and occasional luck you'll need in Choplifter HD. Given the amount of times I've shouted at my screen, came close to throwing -- even biting -- my controller in anger, and flipped off the game when it felt like I was being intentionally trolled by whoever designed the enemy placement in a level, I can't recommend playing it if you are an easilly annoyed player or generally not obsessive enough about completing a game to stick with it."

I think I'll skip it. If it was a pure quick arcade game (shoot-kill-die, try again) I could forgive the difficulty but this sounds too Megaman for me.

I booted up the demo and it appears that you can play the whole game. You just can't save your progress or get achievements.

I agree. The design doesn't have to be complicated, but they could change the design and make it interesting.

What if its the exact same game, but you have a stealth helicopter? So you couldn't fly but so low, and you had to be careful of attracting attention. Just stuff like that would have me downloading this game even if it costs $50. If it had the core game play of the original, but different level design. Like moving slaps of granite to make a bridge for a motorcade? Stuff like that.

The game is fairly difficult. I am on the last campaign, but I doubt I'll ever be able to get 5 stars on every level - even on normal difficulty the game throws all it can at you later on. I prefer the old Choplifter that I used to play on PC (and even the SMS version) but this one is alright. I find myself wishing I had a gunner, controlling everything gets a bit maddening sometimes - you have to aim, shoot your cannons and/or missles, and then focus on the hostages, which gets quite hard as you progress, especially when you have tanks, snipers, and RPGs being shot at you from all directions.
