I'm amazed that there's no Deus Ex thread yet...

I have been playing the new Deus Ex game for about a week now, and I have to say, it's a friggin' blast.

Being a big fan of the original, and having felt burnt by the second one, this one is just what the series needed. The gameplay is great, weather you choose stealth or shooting everything. It encourages you to explore everything in it's world - which seems smaller at first until you start exploring, then you realize just how big it is. It also looks great too, the attention to detail is nuts, I can only imagine how crazy it looks on a serious gaming PC.

Aside from all this though, the game is just plain fun. I'm actually bummed out knowing that I'm getting close to the end. I want more.

If you liked Batman: Arkham Asylum or Splinter Cell: Conviction, do yourself a favor and try it out.

What was wrong with the second one?

I've always wondered, because I liked it *much* more than the first one, but have only heard comments about how lousy it was. I liked how invisible war was set a bit farther out into the future, and how there was considerably more detail to explore in the scenery. Even the presentation of the menus was a great improvement. I also liked the ammo system, but can see how others wouldn't.

Maybe its because I'm a console-only gamer, or maybe it was because I played the second one first. The xbox 'invisible war' was just put together better than the ps2 port of the original. I will say that I did manage to break the 'reality wall' on the moral choice system on invisible war a few times. For example in the superweapon room I managed to wedge the door open with a box in hopes of grabbing the gun and killing the scientist--however it wasn't to be. (he was either invincible, or not there, I can't recall)

Deus ex 3 is about all I have to look forward to for the second half of this year, but I'm in no hurry to buy it. It's 'near future' sci-fi, so not worth the full price of admission for me. It'll be $20-30 soon enough, and I'd rather play it after some of the game-crippling bugs are patched. I haven't necessarily heard of any specific bugs, but titles all seem to have them these days.

If the prices of its predecessors are any indication, this title will hit the sub-$5 mark at the used bin quickly, and become a real bargain.

The only way to play the original is on a PC, no console port can compare. If you didn't play it when it came out, you can't appreciate how amazing it was/is.
