[bomberpunk]

every now and then i'll buy a game i never knew existed out of pure impulse. this was one of them. Battle Slots came out in April 2011 and it's already only $19.99. according to the official website, there is (going to be?) a download available for PSN/XBL.

the graphics are a bit cheesy. the soundtrack is catchy but nothing stellar. the characters are forgettable. the story is a bit dull.

however, where this game shines is the originality of the gameplay mechanics. it's a freaken slot machine RPG, complete with customizable reels, varying attacks & spells that can be assigned to one of six technique slots, interchangeable jackpots that can get you extra gold or temporarily disarm enemy attacks.

plus there are side quests, a zoo where you can capture some of the monsters and learn their special abilities (like double spin or wildcard spots), a store to buy more powerful reel icons, and more.

i just got the game 2 days ago. i play in quick 15-45 minute spurts. but five minutes later, i'm wanting to fire the damn thing up again!
