Two of my son's are avid gamers but neither has much money. One of them decided to take 9 of his no longer played Xbox360 and PS3 titles to GameStop and see what he could get in trade as he wanted to pick up Deus Ex. This is his story:

GameStop offered him $77 for all of his games and my son said No Way!! He then went to Best Buy to pick up a DVD that was on sale and noticed that they had signs telling people to trade in their games for a Best Buy gift card. He brought in his games to see what they were worth and after they checked them and rang them up on the register, Best Buy offered to buy them from him for $141!

PLUS.. they said if he pre-ordered ANY game for a $5 deposit, he'd get an extra 40% in trade-in value on his games. He told them he'd pre-order Modern Warfare 3 and that brought his total up to just over $197 in trade. So, in the end, he got Deus Ex, Modern Warfare 3 is totally paid off, he bought his DVD, and still has over $50 on a gift card in his pocket.

Moral of the story.... if you are looking to trade in games, give Best Buy a look as they seem to be much more customer oriented in giving value than GameStop.

Wow that's awesome. I didn't know Gamestop still offered any money for games  (J/K, but for gamestop, that is a lot) But seriously, hey, twice as much without a preorder and then another nearly $50, that's awesome.

Not that I'd sell any of my stuff, except dupes, but that's just cool.

I'll keep that in mind. It sounds like since Best Buy is just getting into the used game business they're giving people a good reason to go there instead of Gamestop.

don't forget Amazon. Amazon gave me $10 for Tekken 6 while BB offered $6.

Amazon is great, I use Amazon all the time to trade in stuff. I posted an Amazon tracker a ways back to see how much your stuff is worth.

I'll give Best Buy a chance too. Thanks Mendon. It really helps because I'm one who has avoided Gamestop for years.

I'll never sell another game, but this is definitely good to know. Thanks.

CLICK HERE to see what Best Buy will give for your games. And if you click on the right side of the page it will show you current promotions taking place, such as the "Extra 40% on trade-in value if you pre-order a game".

I almost never trade/sell anything as I'm a collector at heart, but my son's and I do swap games we've bought just to check out something new. Cheaper than GameFly!! :D

They don't take GC games... even though they work on Wii and Wii is accepted at BB.

I stopped trading in games but what is the deal with Gamestop's prices on their pre-owned games? I went to look for some pre-owned games that I have missed out on the last couple of years and their pre-owned copies were only $5 less than brand new. $5? Then when I just decided to buy one of the games I was looking at new the guy wouldn't leave me alone trying to get me to buy the used one. Seriously guy? It's five bucks. Give me the new copy before I rip you out from behind the counter. They had a pretty good deal on PS2 games though, buy two get two free. Although their selection had been pretty well picked through.

Are best buy prices like this as well? I have never really looked at the pre-owned selection at my best buy but maybe that is where I will be going looking for pre-owned games from now on.
