OK, I had this game back in the day, and I was awesome at it. Now, I cannot for the life of me figure out the timing on the ropes screen. Any tips?

Press the left fire button when you hear the "whoosh" sound of the rope moving towards you.

It will look like it's too early to jump but it isn't.

NIAD knows!!! No, seriously, if I understand correctly, the game would have to be totally re-programmed because it makes system calls specific to the ADAM and not ColecoVision....right, NIAD?

Has anyone ever done a comprehensive scoring breakdown on this version of DL? I kinda wonder how it works.

I hate to say "NEVER", but in this case and the case of other ADAM specific SuperGames, I'm gonna have to stick with my guns and say "NEVER" again that someone would tackle the huge task of converting a game like the ADAM version of Dragon's Lair to ColecoVision cart format. It would require the disassembly of approximately 128K of program code, a thorough knowledge of the ADAM O.S. in order to remove all occurences of access to it and then replacement with CV equivalents, probably additional RAM (need the unreleased SGM by Opcode) and then the easiest part... placing on a MegaCart with bank-switching technology.

You'd probably be talking at least 6-12 months of very long days to sell maybe 100 carts! That's a helluva a lot of work for little return and I personally would rather see the very talented CV Homebrewers work on other projects.

Yes, I know, someone converted the falling platform level of Dragon's Lair to a ColecoVision cart/rom... but I am of the opinion that it was actually programmers at Coleco who put that together, maybe even before the ADAM version or programmed in conjunction with one another, and they would have had access to everything that was needed. To support this opinion, on the same Coleco In-House Cart Copier data pack that contained A.E. were the unreleased CV versions of Super DK and Super DK Jr. The ex-employee stated these data pack rom dumps were all made before he was laid off circa 1985, so it wasn't some brilliant homebrewer who converted these circa the late 90's as has been suggested.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it happen for the benefit of all CV fans. At least everyone can still enjoy them thru emulation if they don't have the desire to pickup Coleco's  bastard-child  ... the  ADAM Computer  .

If i had to do that, i won't go to the "portage" way.

I will rewrite it from zero.

As much as I love the ColecoVision, Dragon's Lair is not a title that I think belongs on the system. The original looked like watching a cartoon, a port for the ColecoVision would look so lame in comparison it is not worth having IMO.

I would hope the homebrewers would spend their time and talents on something else. Joust?

Actually I might start a thread about making Joust with sound a reality.

I think Dragon's lair on coleco was originally planned to be played on video disc , with a special expansion module. The coleco would just control the sequence and the input.

That was the CED Player/Expansion Module that Ralph Baer worked on for Coleco. It has been mentioned that one working prototype does actually exist and if memory serves me right, it is in the possession of a former Coleco employee's son.

The CED has been made by Circuit & System (I've a pic of the unit)
This is an interface to interact with a CED player
