They're Gameboys; there's no such thing as PAL or NTSC in Gameboy-Land. Those are television standards. A GBA is a GBA is a GBA.

the Game Boy line, to my knowledge, has no region limits.

I will recommend the Game & Watch collections 1-4 that appeared on the GB, GBC and the GBA.

There is also Midways Arcade Hits and Sega Arcade Gallery to name a few others.

There's the Atari Anthology, great version of tempest on there.

The only regional thing on GBA is the GBPlayer which requires a native region system (and I assume, operatingdisc) in order to work where you live.

None of the handhelds up to that time had any regional lock out.

Game and Watch Gallery 4, There's also Double Dragon, Bubble Bobble, and Elevator Action but I believe they're imports if you want a physical copy.

The only licensed Nintendo portable games that are region locked are the 3DS games. All Gameboy, Color, Virtualboy, GBA, and DS games are region free

That's not 100% correct.

DSi Enhanced releases for the DS are region locked. Some software has even been released as DSi Enhanced just in order to get that region locking, such as Sonic Classics Collection, despite using none of the special capabilities of the DSi.

That basically makes the DS as Nintendo's first region locked console since the region locking even is in effect on the original DS when playing a DSi Enhanced game.

Thankfully it only affects a few dozen releases over the past few years.

Paperboy / Rampage
Pong / Asteroids / Yars' Revenge
Spy Hunter/Super Sprint

Namco Museum 50th Anniversary
Pac-Man Collection

Capcom Classics Mini Mix

These combination packs with 2-3 Atari or Midway coinops had a generally poor reputation at the time (Seems as if major elements like entire levels were missing from Marble Madness, for instance). And I believe that Midway compilation saw absolutely horrible reviews from the mainstream media and classic gamers alike.

And I believe Sega Smash Pack was also poorly recieved with things like a 10 second loop of audio that plays constantly in Ecco the Dolphin (The music was one of the best elements of the original). It's not a compilation, but the GBA port of Sonic the Hedgehog was also widely viewed as a disaster.

Sega Arcade Gallery is good though (I love the port of Super Hang-On, enjoy the Outrun port, and never liked Space Harrier although it seems all there. Only the Afterburner port was severely lacking).
