Did Wizard Video Games ever use Apollo shells?

I recently picked up Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre as upgrades to my current carts. However, they are both housed in Apollo shells. They aren't labeled as reproductions but I'm suspicious.

I bet someone repaired them, Wizard / Telesys shells are crap, they hold the circuit board in place with a single tiny piece of plastic, that easily breaks off.

I agree with CPU - I tried some stuff for the release of the halloween protos (with wizard shells) - About 50 percent broke :( Someone probably just replaced it with a better shell.

You won't be able to tell if it is just a new shell or if it is a repro without opening her up. Bottom line...the shell isn't original, and the artwork labels probably are new as well. IMHO, if you are a purist...it isn't "entirely" original. If you are looking to sell it....it isn't original. If you wanted those games for your collection and they play fine, then you are good to go.

They look very nice, so I would be happy with them. If you paid for them and they were described as "originals" (and paid a high price to boot), I would take issue with the seller, as Apollo is not the original shell.

Those definitely are reproduction labels.

I bought them as upgrades to my current carts which didn't look as good. They were not described as originals and I could not tell that they were in Apollo shells. I definitely do not want to replace my originals with reproduction carts. The good news is that I've talked to the seller and she'll accept a return since she claims that she didn't know they weren't original.

Just to repeat the obvious here, I'm afraid they are clearly fakes.

There are four notable differences in the labels.

1. The most obvious is the use of a different font for ‘Wizard Video Games’ at the bottom.

2. Both 'Halloween' and 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' should have 'TM' listed next to their titles on both the front and end labels.

3. The original printed labels by Wizard were actually quite badly done. They were printed on white paper and the separate black and red/orange prints are usually slightly offset ~ often leaving a white or red/orange edge to one side of the label.

4. The red/orange background is not usually seen as one smooth colour now. For whatever reason ~ possibly the passing of time ~ the red/orange background often has a mottled look to it these days.
