If this doesn't belong here, fine.. Just noticed it and thought I'd pass it along.

http://www.amibay.co...ead.php?t=19375

This guy is selling a Mac 128k, the original Mac...
He was asking $300 plus shipping (he said make him an offer), but now he's saying it has to leave his house by Friday or recycle.. Not sure how much of that is bluster to sell it, but...

He's in Michigan if that makes a difference shipping wise..

Just throwing this out there..
I'm not looking for a Mac 128k, but I'd hate to see it recycled...

end of line

p.s. If you've never been on Amibay, they have some rules (mostly for sellers) that can turn some people off. Mostly to avoid price driving and bidding wars, so you might want to read through their rules.. All in all tho, a decent bunch of guys. ;-)

Hmm. $300 or recycle huh? I'd offer him $50 in that case, and I'm sure he'd be glad to take it!

$300 is a lot of money to ask for something you're just going to ultimately be giving away. I hate ads like that.

Besides, isn't this about a $50 value anyway? Haven't done any vintage Mac shopping in a while, but seems to me, that (or less) was about all they're worth anymore. Whoops, guess they're "worth" more now on ePay, even in this economic climate, so go figure. But $300? In any event, the ad is probably just a lame attempt at pressuring someone to purchase it. Can't imagine anyone having any trouble at all finding room in their car, moving van or new domicile for a tiny little Mac system. :ponder:

-edit-

Nice coincidental call there Phatty!

Looks like someone already offered him the cost of shipping for it on Amibay. No reason to not accept that offer, considering the state of "emergency", unless there's an ulterior motive of course.

Oh good, let me know how that works out..

Or do you mean that when you say "would," you actually mean "won't"..

As for value, there's a Mac 128k on e-bait now with 6 bids (2 days + left) at $113, so I'd guess $50 is a bit low..

That being said, if you're interested, offer it.. ;-)

If the seller is asking $300 for that Mac, he has no intention of recycling it.

"Classic Macs" on eBay are almost always overpriced, so don't use that as value guide.

Mac 128s are not rare. Loose and in great shape it is worth $75-100. Minty fresh, boxed, with original packing and manuals it might be worth $200-250.

That Mac 128 doesn't even have the boot floppies, which original copies of can set you back a bit. It isn't worth more than $50 tops, closer to $35. Unless he recapped the whole thing, then it's value goes up a bit, but it still doesn't have the boot floppies.

Actually your preciseness, the contracted "would" refers to the case were I an Amibay member. ;)

I took your sentence to mean any old interested party should just offer fitty bucks and see what he says.
