hey guys, fairly new here, so far I'm liking the site and community in general, I've got a Jaguar and a Lynx and I've been trying to get a nice collection together again over the last 6-7 years. to cut a long story short it might be quicker to read my blog or about me article under my profile!

Basically I really want to get my hands on a Jaguar CD add on again, I had one way back in the late 90's but sold all my Atari stuff to get another console.

I've been ebaying for ages but its pointless even trying to find a reasonable deal for one. Everyone is selling boxed/brand new bundles that include the Jag and loads of games but I just want the CD add on, on its own, it doesn't have to be boxed or new it can be second hand etc. As long as it works and isn't a piece of crap I'll be happy!!

Does anyone know where I can get one?? Mucho Gracias!!

I got mine off eBay a couple years ago. It was a decent deal, but it seems like those are few and far between these days on eBay.

As far as I know, there are only really the two options that you have already checked out. eBay and buying new/refurbished from places like myatari.com and best-electronics-ca.com. Best-electronics-ca.com is probably the best deal at $135.00 refurbished, and it is just CD player as you want. You will need to get your own power supply, but it is the same one as the Jaguar base unit or Sega Genesis Model 1 / Sega CD, so you probably have one laying around. I'm guessing you have a PAL unit because you are in the UK. I've read that NTSC CD units work on PAL Jaguars but I've never verified this myself.

cool, yeah I have tried Best-Electronics etc but I can't justify spending £100!! I'm running pal etc yes, I guess I'm just hoping someone will stumble across a cheap second hand one in a charity shop or at a carboot sale so I can get one cheap, I would get shot if I spent £100 on getting one lol

$135.00 USD is about £85.00 GBP right now, so I suppose with shipping £100.00 would be about right, but unfortunately it's about the best you can hope for.

I've never seen anything Jaguar related at a thrift store or garage sale at all, much less a CD unit. It is simply too obscure. You might hit the jack pot some day, but personally if I found one for cheap I'd probably keep it for myself as a spare as they are known to be a bit flaky sometimes.

Unfortunately £100 is cheap for a good working JagCD...

I owned one for a few years, and ended up selling it a few months ago. Most of the newer homebrews have been released in formats for both CD and Skunkboard, and I get far more use out of my Skunkboard than my JagCD.

To be honest, while there are a couple of decent games for the CD most CD releases were crap. I think it's hard to justify purchasing one unless you already have most cartridge releases and are looking for a more complete collection.

not sure what the Skunkboard is tbh, I've seen a few nice retail titles for Jag CD such as Battlemorph and Hover Strike and Iron Soldier 2, that's why I can't justify buying one for £100 at the moment, I'd be happy to buy one off someone if they have a spare lying around they don't want anymore, otherwise getting a 100 quid one might have to wait a little while.

I thought a lot of the homebrew stuff for the Jag CD wasn't too bad? I've not seen any personally so I really don't know. Any stand out titles?

I do have most of the good/well known jag cartridges but there are still a few I want. I don't normally buy EVERY game for a system, just the ones I see and like the looks of, I'm not looking to own EVERY Jag game, I guess I just didn't realise how expensive a Jag CD unit would be these days

The Skunkboard has kind of become THE way to play homebrew games and do development the past couple of years. I don't think that the Goat Store is taking pre-orders anymore, but you can read about it here:

http://www.goatstore...unkBoard_Rev_3/

and Skunkboard in general (R1-R2) here:

http://www.harmlessl...arch=skunkboard

If you find one for sale, it probably won't be cheap either. I paid $90.00 for an older revision 1 model a couple years ago, and I felt lucky to even find that.

Fair enough, thanks for the info but I doubt it'd be something I'd ever have time to get into if I'm honest!! I'm happy to pick up a CD drive for the JAG at some point but other than that I have no other plans to get anything else except games for my 360, but that's another matter lol. I've never gotten heavily into the Homebrew scene tbh but I know of it and I definitely think its an awesome thing to get involved in.

If anyone ever sees an Atari Jaguar CD Drive for a reasonable price, on its own and just second hand PLEASE let me know! I've got someone who's going to hunt for them at car boot sales here in the UK, you never know, some old biddy might find one in her cupboard, not know what it is and just sell it at a car boot for a tenner!! I can dream can't I? lol
