So yeah, I was thinking it'd be pretty keen to make a 2600 distillation of the animated series Futurama. I'm not saying I'm working on one, mind you, but I'm brainstorming ideas, thinking of ways to fit the story into the cramped confines of the 2600 hardware. It seems like it'd be possible to put recognizable versions of several of the characters onscreen at once, using the DPC+ build of batari BASIC... the only trick would be to keep them on separate vertical lines to keep flicker to a minimum. Maybe set Fry in the middle of the screen and have him dodge tractor beams from the Omicronians, falling brain slugs, that sort of thing.

Also, I whipped up a version of Zoidberg's scuttle that should be suitable for the 2600 hardware. It's tiny, but it should be recognizable as the good (?) doctor, and it could be squeezed into as little as three frames of animation with sprite flipping. Give it a look and let me know what you think.

Looks cool. If a Futurama 2600 does get made, it could be cool for it to be on a unique cart like a Bender Double Ender (parody of Xonox carts), or even a Bender Rear Ender (cart with shiny metal on the back).

That's a nicely-crafted animation. I hope you work it into a game sometime.

That was when Fox still owned the series. The evil executives from the Fox Network were ground up to make Torgo's Executive Powder :)

However I'm a bit confused about who owns the rights to Futurama now. Is it Comedy Central?

Nah, I think it's still Fox. Comedy Central has the distribution rights but I think Fox still has control over the licensing.

Well, that stinks. Did anyone here get a chance to play Sniderman's version of Futurama before it was cancelled? Why were people giving it Cs and Ds? (not to mention C & Ds...)

Was Sniderman's game a hack or an original effort?

I love futurama. But with 2600 limited memory and graphics might not look very good.
