Little background

I never owned a Colecovision back in the 80s, however my next door neighbor did own one

He had all the classic arcade games that were ported to the CV

We spent hours playing Donkey Kong, DK Jr., GORF, Popeye, Frogger, Galaxian and on and on

So just like my Atari 2600 and 7800 as soon as the NES was in both of our houses his CV got boxed up and put away

But I never forgot how much fun it was, I never asked for a CV because I always played at my neighbors and he never asked for an Atari because he just played at my house

As a kid it was the perfect setup for us

So the CV has a special place in my heart (not as special as the consoles that I owned but still special)

So I still own all of those consoles (sans the 7800) but I really want a CV

Should I pull the trigger and get one off Ebay? Or should I talk to some CV collectors here on AA?

Any advice on how I should go about getting a system and some games would be greatly appreciated

There are multiple threads on here with members selling carts cheaper than what you pay for on eBay.

Also, if you are able to find a console here on AtariAge, most likely you won't get that crap "I don't know how to test it so sold as-is."

Well I just won an auction off Ebay, seller said it has been tested and refurbished and the seller has good feedback selling lots of old games and systems.

I hope it works out, if it does I will be looking for some games for sure

You got yourself a nice setup at a great price to get your ColecoVision ball rolling and to ease any concerns you may have... you bought from a very respected and trustworthy person/seller.

Hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of the CV and check the AtariAge MarketPlace for a number of people selling ColecoVision carts at very good prices.... including myself.

Very nice, I felt that the price was a good one and had no problem spending $100

He also had an Intelevision that didnt sell that I had my eye on

Whoa, whoa! Can't we all just get along.
I'd definitely suggest getting both the CV and the INTV, so much to collect and play for both systems. I might know a guy you can get an INTV and games from.
(come to think of it, the guy you got your CV from would be a great choice, why not ship them both together).

Well first off I have never played an INTV (not that it matters as im a collector) and I really only wanted a CV for now

I almost bid on the INTV as well but my wife would have killed me

But the collector bug has bitten me for sure

Im going to give the wife a month and then tell her that the CV and INTV is like PB&J

They have to go together

Well im about to pull the trigger again!

The seller is a real nice guy and is offring to combine shipping with the CV I already bought and throw in the INTV lot for a great price

Im going to be the owner of a CV and an INTV all in the same day

I must say that I am beyond excited and I am already glad that the seller is working with me on this great deal

Two vintage systems that a couple days ago I had only wished that I owned

I will make sure to take pictures of my game room when my two new systems arive

With combined shipping and a great price I just couldnt say no

The fact is that if I did say no I would end up trying to buy one later on and im sure would pay twice the amount I paid now

So why not just get both consoles all in one shot

To say im excited would be an understatement

I just wish my wife was a little more accepting about my excitment

Of course she dosent understand why I need so many consoles when I already have so many, but after giving her the history of the CV and INTV and what the two consoles meant to the Video Game industry back in the early 80s she seemed to understand a little bit more.

Congrats! That "Collector's Bug" can sure become a MF'er on the old wallet as well as the relationship with the little lady!

One thng to really sit back and consider before you get yourself further involved with these systems is how much of a "Completist" you want to become. Lord knows that I could have saved myself alot of time, effort and money from the get-go if I had just listened to myself and started collecting CIB instead of accumulating a near complete loose collection of CV goodness. When the opportunity presented itself earlier in the summer to head down the CIB path in a big way, I couldn't resist and now have a fair amount of loose carts to try and sell... could always sell them at the local retro videogame store, however.

Looking forward to seeing the pics.

Well the good news is that I will not collect CIB games

I own one CIB game (Dragster for the 2600) and thats all I care to own, I have so many loose carts for every system that I own already

The good news for you and myself is that after a couple weeks I will be able to buy some loose carts and I want to do it through AA Marketplace

My main goal is to first collect every game that I played as a kid in the 80s

I already have that goal completed for the NES, and im about 60% of the way on the 2600

My friend with the CV had about 20-30 games and most of them were Arcade ports so I think I can complete that (even though I see Galaxian is rare and is $20+)

So after I complete that there is no telling where I go from there

My wife will get upset only if I buy stuff behind her back, we make a good living so as long as we have the extra funds and I tell her what im buying and what my plan is to not overspend she is cool about it

Welcome to Colecovision heaven! It's an awesome system and the games were soo close to the actual arcade, you didn't need to go to the arcade anymore. Ahh good times.... enjoy your Coleco and when you get ahold of all the classic carts... make sure to try out some of the new homebrews that have been made! There are some real gems coming out for this almost 30 year old system!

Congrats on getting the Colecovision, As a suggestion from someone that is somewhat new to AA also, I highly suggest getting into the amazing homebrew games as they become available, because trying to find them after they sell out can be very difficult. You can see video's and reviews of them on youtube and you can get them at:

These are just a few of the best! I have bought from each and the all have amazing customer service and are very nice to deal with. If you thought the Colecovision was great back when you where a kid, just wait until you see it now!

Congrats on your dual system purchase, my two favourites in one shot! Jerry is a great guy to deal with, I've done a ton of deals with him. As an aside, his wife Barb makes great console covers for both the CV and the Intellivision for around $15. I have a few of them and just bought another for an INTV 2 today. Once you're ready to expand your collection there are lots of great guys to do business with here and I'm sure lots of us would like to get rid of some of our spares at reasonable non-ebay gouging prices. As others have mentioned, there are some fantastic homebrews being produced right now and I'd highly recommend making yourself aware of what's coming out as a ton will be released in the next 3-6 months. It truly is just like being a kid again.
