I just ordered myself an Onlive console today--at the very least I figure it'll be a neat oddball device, good for the free 30 min demos, gameplay footage, and trailers. But curse it, now I notice that they're *giving* them away with a $50 LOTR preorder. A preorder which is even more discounted (30% off) with their playpack membership.

Don't know if anybody is interested, but thought I'd post.
The consoles retail for $99, but as I found out, are sitting right around $30 shipped on ebay.

Yep, they've done quite a few free-system-with-a-pre-order promotions in the past. It's a good deal if you've got an internet connection that can handle it, a HD television, and a wired network connection.

I just wish I had known about all those deals 24hrs ago :-D
Not that I really want a LOTR game, but the console is a nice giveaway.

Because of the lag (which is lower than I thought possible) I'm not sure I'm going to be a major onlive user, but having instant access to see what a game looks like with somebody playing it, and to even try 30 min myself for free without download/install/patching--that's pretty neat. I tried the intro level of duke nukem last night. Didn't like it, but I didn't expect to, and there have been a lot of games that I've bought, only to sink the same 10 min into before shelving forever.

I will say that if you're planning on collecting the microconsole, the unboxing experience is simply fantastic. The cardboard box itself is an engineering wonder, and the system/controller inside feel extremely well built. Onlive microconsoles don't feel at all like disposable hardware. The build quality is actually a step above what is generally used for gaming.

Long after onlive is gone, and the microconsole is totally worthless, it will be a helluva shelf queen.

The next time there is a great combo deal on one of these I might bite, I'm fascinated by the concept(even thought I'm pretty much against the concept lol) and would love to see it in action.
