Sorry I missed this thread (I posted about this in the Events section of the forums) and thanks to everyone from here who came along. The event went well and more people showed up than expected. The Jaguar was busy throughout the whole event and the Gorf competition was very popular. I am looking forward to seeing it at future events :)

So no demo them?

In a world with near instant information transfer via email, and super simple Jaguar beta loading via skunk/bjl/jagcd(uls) you have to wonder how "events beyond control" managed to happen after so much hype.

Oh, kizzy was involved. Say no more :)

If it is "Lights Out" then well done to the author for finally finishing it, but a big BOO! to Atari User and the orgs of the event for pushing it as a "world exclusive new Jaguar game never before seen" given that there's been a demo file available for download for years that runs on all the emulators.

Here is a screenshot of the new Jaguar game that was to have been demoed at Retro Revolution & Atari User Live!

Events beyond everyone's control meant that things didn't quite go to plan, but here is a teaser screenshot so everyone can see what is in the works, and hopefully the talented people behind this most secretive of secretive projects will now stand up and take a bow :)

A big  to all those that continue to code for and support the Atari Jaguar.

Hey everyone, Yes this is a small game that myself and Jag_Slave have been working on slowly in our spare time as time permits. It is a lights-out clone called Blackout. The game is really straight forward. Player has to turn off all lights on the grid in a certain amount of time and only use a certain amount of moves. Power-ups are in the game as well that will help stop time and clear out levels and they can be used through the game as collected. I don't have much else to say about the game at the moment really other than that its still in development and was originally started back in 2009 but was shelved for quite a while and has been picked back up recently and completely Re-coded. Release format is still somewhat un-decided.

Previously there was a demo released of this game back around 2009ish i believe but it was QUITE different and very very basic. Not much to look at back then and was not glitch free for sure. Ive since had an HD crash and lost the original source i had for that demo among other things. The newer version however is much better in my opinion graphically and playability wise.

Yes its a very simple title, but its a first for us. Hopefully we'll continue to developer more titles after this is released and bring more complex stuff to the table. Currently we're still working on getting our hands on and alpine board to speed up development with a good debugger.

Excellent! Always good to see more people working on the Jaguar, and congrats again for finishing something.

And a big BOO! to you for exaggerating what was posted and for being pedantic.

Just thought i'd also post that the demo that was issued to Atari User had an Issue with some startup-routines that were used that WORKED just fine on a BJL setup and not a production jaguar. (Always fun to find bugs like this at the last minute). Anyway, a stock un-modified jaguar was used and the demo didn't run. This was something i was not personally aware of as i only had a BJL modified jaguar to develop on and didn't have one with a stock boot rom to test on unfortunately. This is the exact reasoning for going with a better development setup at the moment.

Just thought i would clarify this here. Partially my fault, and i do apologize to anyone who was looking forward to viewing the demo. Hopefully we'll have some video posted eventually and more pictures.

Thanks to Atari User for attempting to cover this demo viewing for us even though it didn't go as planned and we had technical issues on our behalf.

Rush, try making a ULS bootable CD of it. If it works, I can send you the init code... or you could probably disassemble it :)

Thnx! Great machine to code on and quite fun, but temperamental for sure.

It runs in an emulator and boots via BSG cart coming out of BJL via a cd i created but something about it just not booting properly on a production jag with a cd bypass method.

I'll know once i get a good debugger setup, ill be able to look through it all and figure out whats going on and probably narrow it down to something simple.
Im using the official Atari startup code.

Yah, black screen and hangs once loading. something funky with init sequence im sure. Dont have a good dev setup at the moment to really dive into it unfortunately. I figured i might as well stop further development until the issue was resolved completely. Waiting on an Alpine at the moment to make life easier.

Apparently they used Jagtopia as well. Just one of those instances that didn't work out the way we thought :( Hopefully will have a good debugger here soon, and the problem will be fixed.

No problem, the people that got to hear the in-game music were very impressed with the Jaguar sound and the Atari Jaguar got a lot of love generally from Jaguar newbies. People coding new games for the jaguar deserve to be supported so glad we could help, and we'll continue to help you promote the game once it is ready - and that goes for anyone else doing something for the Jag.

Hopefully now everyone can see this wasn't just some conspiracy theory the forum will return to business as usual and we can all focus on being positive and supportive about your new game.

Now please forgive me, but wouldn't you be better getting a skunkboard for developing, rather than an alpine?? With skunk 3 around the corner & at good price, surely it's a better & cheaper option?? Nice to see something new for the jag, please keep up the good work!!

Got one on order already :)

Problem is i'm familiar with the debugger on the alpine setup for coding. Might as well use the official kit to do this anyway. Skunk works great but ive been waiting waaaay to long for it to actually show up and it doesnt really have an already written debugger that im aware of.

Well your Skunk shouldn't be that far away now!! I'm not really sure of debugging capabilities of the Skunk, but I'm sure there are a few here that are. Having witnessed the 24 hour coding contest in Paris this year, I'm sure it wouldn't ake you long to figure it all out! Link hadn't done much on a Jag before that & seeing him go from a single block on a screen, to a nice little tetris type so quickly was amazing! We haven't been able to stop him since! Well except for a bit of lady looking

Throw your alpine away, or just put it in storage. Seriously. Wait until you get your Skunk, which is a far superior dev environment than the Alpine ever was. Hit up CyranoJ if you need some help with particulars, like he's offered. I'll have more info for you in a PM. :)

Yep. "Blackout!" There is a thread on it here in the jag section.
