Barring homebrews. :) Aside from Gyruss, I vote for BMX Air-Master's title screen. I also like Ghostbusters's title screen they managed to fit the whole theme song in there.

Mr. Do!'s Castle - one of the few things Parker got right about the game.

seconded. Pitfall II sounds like more than 2 channels, and it seems in tune somehow.

I gotta give a nod to PB Frogger. At the time it was the most music I heard from my VCS ever. Made me happy to play it. :)

Pitfall II! It even has a little snare drum.

I also like Bump N Jump.

It has 3 channels plus drums, and is more in tune than regular 2600 titles. To accomplish this, the custom designed DPC chip in the game cart essentially feeds audio samples to the game.

Big Birds Egg catch, nice classical tune
Snoopy pause mode
Pressure Cooker
Moon Patrol

But Pitfall II music isn't cheating, unless Nintendo is cheating when putting extra chips into their carts.

Since Pitfall II used a specialy designed chip, it feels a bit like cheating -- so I'm also going to go with the OP and say Gyruss and Ghostbusters.

Funny thing is, though, when I think about playing the 2600 as a kid, I have no memories of music! Most of the games I had had none, save for the short victory or losing beats. Where as my memories for C-64, Arcade, and NES games are just music filled. :)

Thats because most are not, Berzerk just has simple sounds, which are nice and I like them alot, but man that game would have been fantastic with some music in it. Still a remarkable game.

Pressure Cooker
Popeye
Smurf (or is it Smurfs? Whatever... I always thought the way the music changed to an evil/spooky sounding tone when you entered the screen with the spider was a cool and creative touch)

I think Pitfall II was probably the most important and impressive, but I always liked Desert Falcon's music. It has that unique Egyptian vibe to it. Too bad it doesn't run throughout all of the gameplay.

Seriously though, the parts that have music were good.

Pitfall II is a no-brainer, but Pressure Cooker was actually the first one that popped into my mind. The tune has always been super catchy and now I know why. Garry Kitchen spoke at PRGE about the music for Pressure Cooker. He said that he went through the notes that the 2600 would produce and picked out all the ones that were true notes and then went to a local composer / jingle writer and had him develop a composition that used only those notes, and the result as we know, was fantastic! Another one of my favorite games, for music and gameplay was Mountain King. The music in that game is also integral to the play, so even more important.
