One of my son's bought a 3DS a while back and brought it over the other night when he visited. He was showing me the free games he downloaded and I tried The Legend of Zelda for about an 30 minutes.

When he went home, I couldn't get the game out of my head and went back to my game room, got my GameCube Zelda Collectors Disk off the shelf, loaded Legend of Zelda on my Wii, and haven't stopped playing the game since.

Twenty five years after its release, Zelda is still a a blast to play. Once more I was trying to find the secret dungeons and items in the game by placing bombs and burning bushes. Once more I was trying to figure out my way thru the forrest maze. Once more I've been trying to not go anywhere near Like-Likes (they've ate two of my shields already ....GRRRRR). Zola is still a pain in the rear as I maneuver around Octoroks. Once more I give a loud YES!!! when I obtain a heart container and a Tri-force piece.

Zelda is such a classic game and I salute Miyamoto for his vision and skill.

I agree. It's an absolute classic. I still feel like ALTTP on the SNES is the best in the series, but the original is still a great game.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of the orignal Zelda game, I always enjoy reading topics of games that seem to stand the test of time and still offer enjoyment to gamers today 15, 20 , 25, even 30 years after they were originally release!

I'm glad you are enjoying the game and thank you for sharing your experience with the community . . . I just might have to try Zelda again tonight when I get home!

One of the few games I play again every few years for nostalgia.

The first Zelda is just about perfection.

Funny since I just played through Zelda 1 just last month for the first time in years (only the first quest though.. I'm only partly through on the 2nd before petering out).

Years ago I used to say that it hasn't aged well.. but I did really enjoy it again this last time. LTTP is still great but I think the problem is I already know everything in it, wheras in Zelda 1 it's been so long that things got foggy a little, and thus it was fun to re-discover them. :)

I haven't been browsing the gaming web sites recently but did this morning and found that Game Informer is currently running a "Super Replay" of The Legend of Zelda. I smiled and thought it was funny that just as I started replaying the game, Game Informer does also.

You can view the Super Replay chapters here: http://www.gameinfor...play-zelda.aspx

I introduced my 6 year old niece to LoZ the other day. She's got an attention span of about 30 seconds, and if I put on a movie she'll ask if it's almost over 2 minutes in. But she played LoZ for a good 20 minutes. When it first started with Link on the screen she asked "Where do I go?" to which I replied "Wherever you want." She said it was like having a real adventure.

I have vague memories of the game as a very young child, but my first earnest playthrough of the original Legend of Zelda was in high school, via the Classic NES series on GBA. I couldn't put the damn thing down until I had beaten it. A few years later I received the original NES cart as a Christmas gift, and it remains one of the prized pieces of my NES library.

Great game! Had the chance to play this at the CES before it got released and Howard Phillips that ran the Nintendo Fun Club showed me how to play. Great memories!
