I was wondering if there is a list or if we could compile one of a series of games that has been updated, either by a sequel or remake, that would also include the original game that made the series what it is today? This is outside of what I'd consider a compilation disc, the main draw for most people would be the new version of the game, but they threw the original in there for a look back.

Some examples would be Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure (16-bit era) also including the original Atari port of the game. Another example would be the Doom 3 Collectors Edition for the Xbox which also included the original Doom and its sequel Doom 2. There are obviously a ton more, I was just seeing if you guys could jog my memory on some others and maybe we will find out a few we didn't know about.

Pretty sure NG Black also included the original arcade game. The first XBOX Ninja Gaiden only included the NES trilogy.

The "Game and Watch Gallery" games included the original G&W versions of each game that was remade.

New International Track & Field for the DS included the original NES Track & Field.

While it's not really a remake, Star Fox: Assault does have the original Xevious as an unlockable bonus.

Not wholly relevant to this topic, but it's pretty cool that River City Dodge Ball All-Stars includes an official hack of River City Ransom EX with additional scenarios & stuff in it.

- Tekken 5 for the PS2 has the arcade versions of Tekken 1, 2 and 3 included.

- IIRC, the PS2 Sega 3D Ages Fist of the North Star remake also includes the Master System version as well (aka Black Belt in the US).

- This probably doesn't count, but R-Type DX on the GBC included each of the B&W GB versions of R-Type and R-Type II (played together in the new GBC mode added a new stage and, erm, color visuals).

You discover it by finding secret areas throughout the game. There are multiple opportunities to get it as you play, the first one (I believe anyway) being in the first temple-like level. There will be a retro scorpion when you are close to it on that stage in particular.

Not sure about the Jag version, but I know in the Sega CD one you could also enter a code to go straight to it at the title screen. It went along the lines of something like tapping A 26 times, then pressing start.

The ones I was thinking of are already listed, so the only other one I can think of is Timesplitters 2. It doesn't really count, but throughout the game you can unlock classic games like anaconda and lunar lander.

I think Pac-Man World 2 had Pac-Mania in it. Metroid Prime allowed play of the original NES game when linked to Fusion on the GBA.

It was a quick conversion of the PC version of the original game. I'd rather play it on Saturn but it was still a fun thing to include.
