I just realized that everyone can check which topic or forum I follow. That's something which I do not want to share with other people.

I can sign in without being listed, so how can I avoid being tracked like described above?

1. Click this link (you can get to this by clicking your username at the top of the page and selecting "Content I Follow"):

http://www.atariage....rch&do=followed

2. Click the "Display Edit Options" button.

3. Select all the topics.

4. Select "Change following preferences to anonymous" at the bottom (the "Choose Action" drop-down) and then click "Update Selected".

You'll need to do this for each page if you have more than one page of topics you're following. You'll see a "Next" button at the top and bottom of the page if this is the case.

You can also do this for "Forums" you follow by clicking on the "Forums" link on the left (under "By section").

Works, but I have maybe a thousand topics I follow. And I can update only 25 at a time. And after updating it always jumps to the 1st page. Pretty annoying

Now, do I have to repeat this all the time in the future or can I define a default somewhere?

Generally I heavily dislike if someone (read "the forum software") starts to publish data which was collected under completely different conditions. Under German law this would be illegal.

Seconded.

There should just be a universal setting in a user's preferences to globally take care of all of that.

I didn't even think you were technically following a topic until you clicked "Follow This Topic". I guess I was wrong. It seems to me like this should be the only way to follow.

I guess I don't understand the purpose of "following" a topic. If I want to check up on topics I posted in I would just click the appropriate link on the View New Content page. Can there be a way to just shut down the "following" part altogether? Even if on a user-by-user basis as a preference? It just seems redundant to me.

I quit Facebook for a reason. I'd hate to see my favorite forum turn into it.

When you follow a topic or forum, there is a checkbox that lets you follow it anonymously or not.

Good thing I'm not in Germany! ;)

When you start a new topic you'll be following it automatically. You can disable this in the preferences here:

http://www.atariage....a=notifications

Look for, "Auto follow topics I reply to. Notification frequency" near the top.

The reason I use it is to get email notifications when someone responds to a topic I'm interested in. Or when new topics are started in forums I'm interested in. You don't have to use it if you don't want to.

Facebook and this forum software are pretty far apart. While Invision named a few things in similar fashion to Facebook, functionally it's not much different than before. Instead of Subscribing to topics and forums (features for some time), you now "Follow" topics and forums. Instead of voting up a post you now "Like" it. If you don't want to use those features you don't need to.

Thanks. I rarely start new topics. I looked at the 'Content You Follow' and it has every thread I ever replied in, even before the forum upgrade. I never specifically checked 'follow' for these threads (or 'subscribe', for that matter). Is this a bug? (I think I clicked 'follow' once since the forum upgrade just to see what it would do. Apparently I didn't need to!)

Just upgraded the forum to 3.2.3. If you see any glitches or anything odd or things that are obviously broken, please let me know. :)

Not a privacy issue, but I can't edit my own threads in the Marketplace (and Wanted subforum) anymore.

Yes, I upgraded the forum today and need to re-merge changes I made to allow editing. I won't be able to do this until tomorrow morning. :(

Something is wrong with quoting " ".
