Hey all,
Been sitting in the Congo going back through the wii games I picked up and haven't really played- I realized that I have more 2d platformer type games now than I have had since I first owned a SNES. Crazy. Looking at the Wii's 2d library in my possesion, they have some incredible 2d games. I have an XBOX 360 but haven't seen as many high quality 2d games (admittedly though I don't do much on XBOX Live) in terms of 2d. Agree or disagree?
Here are the wii games I have that lead me to this conclusion- all of these kick ass:
Mirumasa (spelling!)
A Boy and His Blob
DKC Returns
Lost in Shadow
Wario Land: Shake it
Kirby's Epic Yarn
NSB

on wiiware:
Swords and Soldiers
Max and the Magic Marker
Lostwinds 1 and 2
That Kid Icarus/Metroid style game (name escapes me)

In addition, that new Rayman looks killer. Pretty weird that after 15 years of "2d is dead!" it seems to be going through a pretty righteous renaissance.

GREAT system for 2D platformers, won't get an argument from me. They are the only reason I hold onto the system.

It's never really dawned on me, but you are right. I can't think of many 2D platformers on the other consoles that aren't restricted to download-only releases.

There's some compilation disks that include 2D games but the majority of them are in the arcade and cost around a $1 to $10 and yeah there's a ton of them!

I think the Wii is awesome for 2D... ESPECIALLY if you are online and are looking at the Virtual Console. So many games from older systems available that even without Wii specific games, it would be the best.

Ah, there's plenty on PSN and XBLA if you don't totally ignore them.
Also, I'm looking forward to seeing how Muramasa looks on PS3 when that's released. Wii does have a lot of 2d-style platformers, and some are really great.. but many aren't worth more than 10 minutes' play (Marker, Yarn, Boy & Blob)...
