I don't think this one has as many games that can be nerfed by using an 8-way. Qix is the only one I can see where it might be a serious problem for purists. Then there are the games on the unit that require an 8-way, like the Legend of Kage. I'd hate to play that one with a 4-way--It would be like trying to play Xevious from the Pac-Man model a few years back with no diagonals, haha!

I agree completely. There are much more 8 way games than 4 way games on the device. Its just that the game I'd want to play the most... just so happens to be 4 way. :) Which is why I said about I wouldn't get it unless its cheap being its going to be modified anyways.

This unit looks just like the older Ms Pacman from 2010...sadly, that one was promising but it's that same lack of quality in the buttons that turns me off. I won't bother with this one, unless they blow em out cheap.

The problem definitely lies with cheap buttons (this unit, they actually painted the plastic buttons white...very cheap) and the eight way stick effectively ruins the Pac Man games...I've ranted about this before, but just today I thought of a solution: I was really pleased with the controls of the very first Jakks Pac Man, and the stick is essentially a four way due to the direction template (all the games are 4 direction ones). I'm going to see if I can stick the guts from a later Ms Pacman stick into that and see if it'll work.

A FYI guys, I just found out that Toys R Us has them on their web site for $20. Someone who commented on my YouTube video said they just ordered one from there without any issues.

Considering that I guess I'd match that. I'd like to liquidate the one I've got. They want $5.27 for shipping plus tax. Anyone that wants mine $25 shipped, it is new.

I just picked one up at my local Walmart for $19.99 they still have 3 more if anyone wants them I can go pick them up and ship them at cost... I have to pay 8.1% sales tax here so the price would be $21.61 + whatever shipping is.

Too goofy a selection of games on it for me, but otherwise looks interesting.

Hey, I was really good with that rendition of Bosconian. :) It was my first experience with the game, and I became skilled enough at it to pass the 25th level after nearly an hour of play on one credit. The lack of diagonals does not hurt Bosconian quite as much as it does Xevious, I feel, though you wouldn't want to play Xevious on the 12-in-1 Namco TV Game for another, more serious reason: the locations of enemies got completely screwed up somehow when they mastered the code for that unit. The earlier TV Games systems with Xevious were fine, but the 12-in-1 with the 4-way joystick got a bad copy of the program.

Incidentally, it wasn't a NOAC that underlay that unit with Bosconian.

Actually, I think the buttons on both this Taito unit and the 12-in-1 Namco unit (the one you're talking about, which actually doesn't have Ms. Pac-Man on it and originally released in late 2008) are the best that Jakks has ever put into one of their TV Games systems. I think they have great feel and response, clicky and with no mushiness. I also don't see what you mean about white buttons being cheap. It's just dye. . . .

The buttons are very stiff in comparison to normal arcade buttons. I doubt what's used here is used in actual cabinets. It didn't bother me too much though as they get the job done and still have that microswitch sound (I can't stand silent, non-microswitch buttons on certain home arcade sticks).

Idunno, I thought the game was a whole lot easier with them.

Seemed like it to me, unless you're talking about a different one. Here's the one I mean: Posted Image

If it wasn't NOAC, it was something very similar.

I actually like that unit (pictured) because I'm a big fan of Dig-Dug. It's a CHALLENGING version of Dig-Dug, to be sure. The guys move fast. For a seasoned fan, it's a nice change.

Hmm, I had thought that the stiffness would go away once the buttons had been "broken in" with enough use. Even if it never goes away, though, it hasn't had any noticeable impact on my playing as far as I can tell, so I don't mind either.

Heh, you could be right, but in my case, since I got used to playing the game without diagonals first, playing the later Jakks rendition of Bosconian with the 8-way joystick on the wireless Ms. Pac-Man system made things difficult for me, because now I had to get used to having diagonals.

Yes, that's the model I'm talking about. A number of second-hand sources have told me that it ran on a 65816-compatible Winbond microcontroller (oddly enough, I just talked about it yesterday in this post); there aren't a whole lot of chips Winbond made that were suited for plug-n-play gaming applications, so this most likely was a chip from their W55V9x family.

yeah that prev 12 in 1 Bosconian wasn't so bad, I go back every so often to that awful version of Xevious just to laugh at how absolutely atrocious it is. Just completely WRONG.

If you like the game selection, it's great... all titles seem to be emulated well. As others have mentioned, its just such an odd selection of games. A few more of their hits like Jungle Hunt, Zookeeper, Space Invaders Deluxe, Rastan, Arkanoid (using the twist feature), Phoenix, and Elevator Action would have really helped this unit out. Some the obscure games are actually quite good (Puzznic, Tube It), but I can't figure out why they stuck on Birdie King and Alpine Ski instead of some real classics.
