So I'm going on vacation next month for Thanksgiving, and I'm looking for a new game that I can get for my DS. Here's what I'm looking for:

1) Roleplaying, adventure, strategy, or sim game.
2) Something like, but not part of, the Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Fire Emblem, and Advance War series.
3) Don't mind if it's 'new' or a remake of a older game.
4) Can last a good ammount of time (at least 20 hours would be ideal).
5) Can be had either used or new for cheap (hopefully under $20).
6) Of course, it can be a GBA game.

Can anyone give suggestions?

Did you play the DS Chrono Trigger yet? I've seen that in the bargain bins. Have you played Retro Game Challenge? Civilization Revolution?

if you want to play something that was overlooked, B-17: Fortress in the Sky on the DS feels like a remake of the popular Intellivision classic. It barely got any attention at release and was a bit too simple for modern reviewers. But it's a decent little game that was well done, albeit a bit on the simple side (Although there's some pretty difficult missions included on it).

I suppose that would be considered a arcade game with sim, strategy, and action elements to it.

Yes, I've played all those, knew I'd forget to mention some games. :)

I'll check out the other suggestions, thanks.

Any Ace Attorney game perhaps? Of course it makes most sense playing them in chronological order.

You can download Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary from the DSi shop for free.

And I'm considering getting Aliens: Infestation for the DS as it looks good from the video's and is getting very good reviews.

Here is a list of the games that I have/had the most fun and time with.

Astro Boy GBA
Gunstar Heroes Advanced
Gaurdian Heroes Advanced
Aliens Infestation
Metal Slug(s)
All the Advance Wars
Most Castlevanias
Metroid Pinball
All these are great for short bursts or long play IMO.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor is really good. I've only played the 3DS remake, but the story and gameplay is the same as the DS version (the 3DS version adds a few new monsters, voice acting, improved visuals, and an extended ending too the story).

If you haven't played it, I say Might and Magic Clash of Heroes

It's akin to Puzzle Quest,i.e. RPG/strategy within a puzzle game (in this case the puzzle type being a "Columns" variation). I dunno.. I had a lot of fun with it.

Has anyone played any of the Professor Layton or Ace Attorney series of games?

It seems that they always get pretty good reviews and are popular and I'm wondering if maybe I should check one of them out.

-Pick up a Metroidvania game or two - the ones on DS are really, really good and for me they're like digital crack.

-Orcs & Elves is definitely not 20 hours long (far shorter) but it is a highly entertaining throwback to classic dungeon crawlers.

-Infinite Space is definitely not for everyone - many will walk away bored - but stands apart for its very hard-sf approach, tactical bridge combat, and extremely long quest.

-And have you tried The World Ends With You? That one's supposed to kick all kinds of ass.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. There was a number of games here I allready had played on one system or another. I also decided not get a RPG at this time as I still have Final Fantasy III that I'm working on.

In the end I picked up Aliens: Infesitation and the two new Ace Attorney games -- I had played and loved the first three with Phoenix Wright, so I got the two new ones with the other characters.

Even better, I saved $30 in making the orders. I decided to apply for the Amazon Visa card since I 'lost' my Visa when my bank changed my debit card from Visa to MC and I got aproved, so that's one of those games for free. :)
