I did a search on AtariAge for "GoSub 3" and it came back and said that it didn't like the "3" part because it was less than two characters or something. Also, I remember wanting to name a blog entry "i" for my game about the lowercase I, but I couldn't. Is there some way to allow this, for example, someone searching for "Pitfall 2" wouldn't be allowed to...

Sorry, it's not realistic to allow for one character searches. We're already pushing it with two character searches, and the only reason I can allow that is because I have a third-party search engine on the site (as opposed to the search engine built into MySQL, which would come to a crawl when searching over two million posts). I think the default for this forum software is actually a minimum of four characters when searching.

You can thank Andrew Davie for the two character search ability, since he wasn't happy that "Qb" couldn't be searched for. :D

The searches are also case-insensitive, again, that's not something likely to change.

Can't you use " " around the search string?

Yes, but there's still a minimum of two characters required for search terms. If you search for "Gosub 3" it will just match on "Gosub" and ignore the "3". Single character words are not stored in the search index.

You could always use this instead:

site:www.atariage.com/forums/ "GoSub 3"

Yes, Google is a great way to search forums that have search restrictions. I have to do this all the time on Invision's official support forum, which has is a very annoying forum to search for due to the restrictions they have in place.
