How does "awesome" outdo itself? Ask Byuu, as in the recent release of BSNES he's added NES support, and it looks like hes also adding GBC support in future versions.

http://byuu.org/

Right now its preliminary, sort of a "rough draft" so to speak, and is not really in a position to replace the better NES emus out there (yet), but still, pretty cool.

I have to say, from what I've seen of Byuu, in both his posts and his work, I would not be surprised if BSNES ends up being the best NES and GB/GBC emulator as well. (I know he has said on his site that it's just preliminary, and sort of a "for fun" thing, but I still won't be surprised if he makes NES emulation perfect too.)

While NES is being added, he's expressed multiple times that he has little interest in making a highly accurate GB/GBC emulator. I'm hoping he continues with NES though, as his work could help fill in the gaps for the existing PowerPak mappers through proper low-level emulation (which is currently lacking for some mappers).

Yes, I know he has expressed it, but I also know that he comes off as a perfectionist, (which is a good thing.) I get the feeling that it not being as perfect as possible will end up bothering him to no end, and that he'll end up making it awesome or dropping it altogether.

Is Nestopia not good enough? On the GBC side, Gambatte also aims to be a cycle accurate emulator. IMO, there are other platforms that need the perfectionist treatment more. Perfect Turbografx emulation would be really nice.

I wouldn't expect there to be much of a difference between what Byuu will make vs. Nestopia.

Magic Engine offers pretty much flawless PCE/TG16 emulation. Have you had issues with it?

Yeah, what he said. Magic Engine is pretty perfect as it is, however, the authors do want money for a "registered" version. (Although with some searching you can get around this.)

The funny thing about BSNES NES emulation is that it is as CPU intensive as the SNES emulation. This might have to do with the high quality sound. But if speed is an issue, stick to Nestopia.

I had been under the same impression, but I read a lengthy criticism of Magic Engine somewhere (don't recall where now) that was basically along the same lines as byuu's criticisms of other SNES emus, i.e. that it seems to work well but breaks down in certain obscure situations and edge cases.

Having said that, I've never even played a real TG-16, so I'd have no ability to identify any shortcomings in Magic Engine; all I know is that, as far as what's available for my platform (OS X PPC), it plays ROMs that other emulators choke on.
