Following a question from a forum member, I was wondering if there is a Czech/Slovak character set for the A8? Even better, something which can be made into an 80 column (3 bit) version, if it hasn't already. This is for a font set for The Last Word. MrFish and I are rather preoccupied with the GUI and other things at present (MrFish designed - remarkably - a Polish font for LW in 80 columns).

Note: 80 column fonts for The Last Word are packed two characters per 8 bytes (side-by-side), so are 512 bytes in size. They follow the normal internal code order.

"Panther" has a (40 columns) font included named "Polskie" which uses about the same characters. Don't know enough about the language to know all characters are in there.

Quite predictably, the Panther's font "polskie" contains characters characteristic for Polish language: ą, ć, ę, ł, ń, ó, ś, ź, ż. Czech and Slovak languages not only require more of them, but the set of special characters is different: only "ó" is shared with Polish. So no, I don't think this particular font can be used for Czech and Slovak texts :)

Never too old to learn.

For me it's just as with Chinese people. They all look the same to me. :-)

480i would be good for such fonts... gives you 16 pixels height to play with instead of 8 within the same space.

So does CAPEK.FNT contain the necessary characters? If so, I can have a go at making an 80 column version.

Also good for 48 lines of 4x8 text... nice! However, we'd also need 16KB for the display.
