My daughter has one with five games and for some reason it likes to shut down mid game on her even with fresh batteries (haven't tried a wall wart yet). So my question is, does anyone else have one and is it glitchy like this too or do I have a bum Didj?

Nah they are all glitchy like that. My nephew has one and I bought him the Sonic game for it. He played it awhile and after he shut it off to put in another game the other game wouldn't work. As a matter of fact all the games he had would not work then. I don't know if it was a program issue with Sonic or an update issue with the system but it messed up the system. They sent it back and got another. This one seemed to work ok for awhile but now he can't play any cartridge games again. It was a good portable system even for an educational product but to me its got too many other issues.

I was at my nephews over Halloween weekend and played it. The game that's on the system plays fine but I tried Star Wars in it and it said to shut down the system and restart it with the cartridge in. I did and messed with it for awhile until I got frustrated and just played the game on the system. I really thought that this was a good system but this is the third one he's had and it does the same thing. I found out his mom got another system at Wal-Mart for like $30. He used it for awhile and it eventually wouldn't read cartridges either. His mom took the one Vtech sent as a replacement apart to see if she could do anything with it but to no avail. I know Vtech's quit supporting it and started another system. Like I said it's a shame, they had a good product but if all your systems stop reading carts what good is it?

My oldest has a Leapster 2, which she loves. She's 6 still gets a kick out of it all the time, so that may be an option. My youngest (2 1/2) always wants to play around with it too, so we're giving her a Leapster 1 for Christmas, which I really think she'll like. They still sell both the 1 and 2 models in stores, and they take the same games, which is really nice for us since we already have quite a few games. We just saw the #1 models at Toys-R-Us for $50, but we got this one on Craigslist brand new, in box never used for $20. The only difference between the 2 models is that with #2 you can connect it to your computer to access Leapfrog Learning Path to see your child's learning progress, download games, and stuff like that. It is a very nice feature, admittedly.
