For those of you that have hi-def TV's how do you hook up your vintage systems? In this case a 7800 since that's the forum I'm in. :) I have a 5200 and a 7800 that I would like to play on my 50" plasma instead of the 19" CRT sometimes. Sometimes it's nice playing on the 19 too, like when someone else is using the large TV for xbox or Wii. Right now I only have the coax hookup that came with the 7800. While it looks good on the 19" I'm afraid to hook it to the plasma as I've heard newer TV's have issues with these systems and I really don't want to go behind it every time I want to play 5200/7800/genesis/other systems to be bought yet. Whatever I do, I, obviously, I want to keep the Pokey able to use and be able to use the 7800 Expansion Module (XM) if I would buy one in the future.

Thanks for the help

I don't. I hook up my vintage systems to my 25" CRT with the nicest connection available on each. They look relatively crappy on large flat screens.

Your options for hooking it up to your plasma are to A) see if the RF connector works, or B) composite/component mod your 7800.

7800 games don't look too bad but there are several 2600 games that look awful on my 46" LCD screen. My console is composite modded.

Use a VCR to connect your old consoles. They all look good on my 50"plasma with the surround on. I always play Atari with the powered sub on 10. It makes the crashes more realistic..

Before I modded my 7800 for Composite and S-Video, I was using a simple Coax-Rf adapter. You can pick them up at the Shack, Best Electronics or even Feebay.

Used a DVD recorder to hook my S-video modded 2600 to my bedroom lcd TV via theHDMI output since my set didn't have a S-video in. Has a good pic that way, but it does get some digital grain look in black. Works great on Jag as well.

I use the RCA-to-antenna adapter that's been available both in the AA and at Radio Shack for years. Works like a charm on my Sony Bravia 40-inch HDTV...and in fact, hand to God, the RCA cable connecting the 7800 to the TV works really well as an antenna -- picture is great!

Don't you mean Antenna to RCA adapter so that the antenna from the atari converts to RCA that goes to TV? I've never seen these at Radio Shack, but definately would be interested if they do have them. Would make things much easier.

Nope; it plugs onto your 2600's RCA plug and goes to your TV's antenna input.

Oh, I don't have that on my 7800, never bought a mod for it because I'm not sure which one is best/will work well with the xm when it comes out and such. Don't want to lose anything video/audio wise when it comes out.

There's no mod involved; "RCA" is the style of plug used on the RF-out cord of the old atari systems.

Oh, the RCA I am thinking of is the White/Red with the Yellow for video. That's where I was getting confused.

The rf output on your 7800 is an rca cable. The red white and yellow rca jacks are composite input. The rca jack is the form factor of the connector not the format of the signal.

I guess that comes from stereos and such being considered RCA inputs so I just think of those as RCA and not the atari connector. Guess I didn't think it would work that way with my plasma. I'll try and see what happens I know some people can't get it to work with the antenna in the newer TV's
