LOL yeah, aren't CD's like 150rpm or something like that? (I think some of those old systems had 2x drives, but won't swear) I don't know what the Xbox has in it, but I know a lot of desktop drives are rated at 52x (7500rpm...ish which is probably as fast as they will go, as the disc starts to physically warp from spinning if you go much faster) Wonder how fast BD's go, maybe they are heavier material that could spin faster?

BD doesn't need to spin as fast, since the data is packed more densely.

If 360 discs are just DVDs then wouldnt a typical dvd rom spin just as fast?

It would depend. A DVD can run at 1 speed, (which compared to a CD I think is around 8x or so) but there's no reason to limit the speed for a data disc, which Xboxes would be, technically. I don't think it's as fast as a computer drive, but judging from how fast it'll rip a DVD it's running a lot faster, or can, than a standard DVD drive.

The Xbox 360 has a 12x speed DVD drive. For comparison the PS2 has a 4x speed drive.
