When I select a game and the game screen appears a few seconds later the screen gets jumbled and I hear a loud screech. What could be the problem?

Do you have the cart mod installed?

No I just got it today. It was working fine and then it started acting up. Some games work like secret quest ,but others just give me the garbled screen when I select them.

That's weird, how do you got it hooked up? And what kind of TV are you using?

I have it hooked up to an HDTV tv through a video game switch box. The screen goes bad like an Atari 2600 with a broken cartridge in it. Could something be shorting out.

Good troubleshooting would dictate that you try it on a different display and plugged directly into the TV. Try a CRT TV if you've got one.

Make a list of the games that are garbled and pay attention to if they are the same ones every time.

Push all the buttons on the device and see if anything changes - switch the B/W switch too.

I have done all that but we don't have a CRT tv.

games that don't work

Adventure
Adventure ii
Haunted House
Return to Haunted house
arcade asteroids
arcade pong
centipede
lunar lander
missile command
battlezone
quadrun
saboteur
space war
yars revenge
3d tic tac toe
combat
dodge"m
fatal run
hangman
human cannonball
maze craze
outlaw
off the wall
save mary
video checkers
video chess
realsports boxing
realsports soccer
super baseball

I have an older flashback 2 that works just fine with this TV. I got a flashback 2+ for the bugfixes and the new games.

I guess I will have to order another one.

I have a jumbled screen problem after my cart mod. Does your jumbled screen look like this:

So it looks like that, then you select a game that works with the joystick and it fixes? I guess the menus work for you?

The menu works. The games keep giving me that messy screen when I select them and go to the game screen.

I ordered a new one. Selecting a working game doesn't fix the problem for the other games.

It's the left controller port that is causing the problem. When I wiggle the joystick connector around the picture sometimes comes back for a short amount of time Why would a joystick port mess up the video signal?

/\/\ I don't understand that question, but there is a lot going on right above the DB9 port. Its possible something on the board is loose.

The jumper that determines if the device will be ROM or cart is right above that port - for examp;e
