So this IIe I was given has a few cards that I cant find information - anyone know what these do:

MPC RAMTEXT - Is this an 80 column board?

MicroTek Q-Disk - Not sure what this does

Some Mircosoft Consumer Division card

Microtek Dumpling board is a printer card from what I could find

The ramtext is totally an 80 column board, unsure if it's also got the added 64k though.

As for the other 2, no idea.

Could the M$ card be a Z80 daughtercard? Put it in slot 4 and try booting CP/M?

Anyone know if there is a .DSK file with CP/M on it? I think it is in slot 4.

Microsoft Soft Card (which is what you have):

Microtek Q-Disk is a ram card. Think it's 128k.

No prob. Surprised there's not a mouse card with it or something. Most of the ones I've comes across that have large ramdisks installed usually have that as well.

The RAMTEXT card will give you three major features.
1 - 80 column text
2 - 64K ram expansion
3 - Double Hi-Res graphics

Any idea if I need to enable the double hi res graphics? I started a game and selected double high rez and the screen came out garbled?

What game? Is your //e an "enhanced" one, with mousetext? Or a standard //e..? There may be a jumper on the card, you'll need to check documentation for exactly what it does. But it would not hurt to try it either way.

A simple way to tell if your system is standard or enhanced is by looking at the logo at the top when you turn on the power.

APPLE ][ = standard
Apple //e = enhanced

In order to use Double-HiRes-Graphics you will need the following.

A revision-B mainboard.
An 80 column card with 64K ram that fits into the auxiliary slot.
A monitor capable of handling the increased dot rate.
If your 80col/64k card has 2 chips of the LS series logic gates, and 8 ram chips (4164), and a single jumper, that jumper should be installed.

If your system meets those requirements and you still cannot get DHR , then you:
1- Have faulty hardware
2- Have buggy software
3- Might have a conflict with another peripheral card

This is all very simple and no trickery is involved here.

I got a "loaded" Apple ][e which also contains one of those CP/M cards (although it doesn't have a Microsoft logo). It also has a dual graphics tablet interface, a PKASO printer interface, a Zoom 300-baud direct connect modem, and a Ramworks III card. Somebody put some money into this machine, once upon a time.

I got it in a lot of electronic scrap. About a half-dozen //e and GS computers were in a school warehouse, and a scrap dealer came in and chopped off all the wires for copper scrap, and gave us the rest. It broke my heart because there were a bunch of 5.25 and 3.5 disk drives in the lot, and those 19-pin data cables will be difficult to replace. But, at least everything I've tried has worked so far, after I replaced the cables.

Just go spend some time at an e-cycler. Thousands of old classic computers and videogame consoles as well as more recent shit like windows xp computers are shredded, melted, chopped up, crushed, stripped of materials. You name it. No system makes it out alive from these places. This is good as it increases the remaining systems' value. Perhaps.

What is amazing, is that schools still have Apple II systems laying around. You'd have thunk they'd trashed them years ago!

Is copper woth enough to make it worth the effort? I would think that the labour involved (i.e. stripping the insulation) would cost more than the resale value of the salvaged metal. I've never heard of anyone salvaging wire in such small quantities before -- around here it is usually stolen from construction sites, etc. in truck-load quantities.

Perhaps it is worth buying the whole box of random cables at the local thrift shop. :ponder:
