Anyone know how to put samples in MAME roms that don't have any yet?

Hey gang!
I wanted to make videos of some games for YouTube through MAME. Unfortunately some of them don't have samples, or certain sounds are wrong or missing. If I can record something that sounds like what I remember hearing when I played it way back when, how can I get the game to play it in the samples folder?
One specific incident: the game INTRUDER by Game Plan/Taito has an explosion sound missing when you or the opponent gets blasted. I think the sound of getting shot in Space Invaders was very similar. How can I take that sample and get it to work with the rom? Is there some sort of .cfg file I need to fiddle with?
Just curious if anyone has any input. I may need to ask the MAME dev team, just thought I'd ask you guys first.
Thanks!

You can't.

You might be able to replace the samples in games with ones of your own but you can't just introduce sounds where they don't normally occur.

MAME would likely use a triggering event to know when a sample is needed, such as the game writing values to a certain memory location or executing an instruction which outputs to a CPU port.

If you wanted to edit a video and put your own sounds in, then that'd be easy enough, full-featured video editing packages let you mix in sound files or replace sections of audio with your own.

Thanks for the info, Rybags!
Maybe I should just edit the video.. does YouTube have the capability to let you put your sounds in? I noticed they have a Video Editor..

I managed to get it working in a video editor. Pretty simple really, if you can mark the time down that the sample needs to be played. Then move the recording into the bar for sound effects at or around the right timeline (depending on how accurate you want to be) and it works like a charm!
Too bad the video editor chopped off the last few seconds of my video narration, for reasons I don't understand. Grrr...
