I fear somewhat that I might not be able to get into this generation as much because I'm going to be a latecomer. With all the patches and online content that is needed for this generation, I'm not sure that a few years after the PS3 and 360 have ridden off into the sunset that they will hold up as well as most if not all previous generations. As unfortunate as it may be, when I'm more able to afford and have time for these consoles, they will be paralyzed by time.

Bummer.

Well one hope is if anything, this day and age almost proves that digital content lives forever even after the companies that made them fade away. Heck look at the availability of Atari 2600 roms. You can get ALL of them easily. For that matter look at old DOS games.. not only are they available online(if you know where to look) but often include all extra add-ons that were marketed. If you don't want to have to use an emulator like DOSbox then many times there are patches to get them to work on modern OS's. Or look at something like the PSX.. it's not hard to find entire PSX collections available for download, huge as it may be. And if you're talking about current generation of course all Xbox 360 discs and even Xbox Live titles are meticulously cataloged and pirated.

So yeah I really don't see any paralyzation happening.. rather in 10-20 years I see "CLASSIC XBOX 360 - XBOX LIVE PACKAGE" with all games included circulating around the pirate scenes with ways to play it on whatever platform happens to be popular then (computer, black box, future console, who knows..) Or heck, probably easily put right on your "retro" xbox 360 console you still have in the attic. :)

It's not just my lack of free time... as significant as that is... but in this era of MMORPGs, games are designed to be never-ending experiences. I had to stop playing WoW because after a certain point, you need to play it as a full-time job, or just stop bothering. With as much as I love games, why would I want to dedicate 20+ hours a week to only one of them, especially if there was no "stopping point" where I could plateau and move on to something else?

I think what he is saying is that lack of free time isn't the problem, it's the overall lenght of time it takes to complete a single game. I agree, I have plenty of free time, I just don't have the patience to play those kinds of games anymore.

Same here....

I feel your pain. Most new games take more time than I have or more time than in willing to spend. However, games like FIFA does not take lots of time. I do use my xbox 360 for FIFA and arcade games.

I don't know about Fifa, but most sports games these days have so little in the way of a real "update" (outside of roster change, and seriously, couldn't they just throw in a "make your own team" editor and fix that?) that you might as well be playing the last gen version :P

I think he means that sports titles typically aren't greatly improved from one year to the next, and that the same game just gets released year after year with nothing more than a roster update. While for the most part that is true, its hard to bring alot of new things to a sports game that doesn't change much from year to year itself.

I
I see. Yeah , he is right but incremental updates they eventually add to a big change. Regardless, I buy FIFA every year. Just the roaster is enough of a reason but they do bring updates to the game play. I see the franchisento have a big change every 3 years or 5.
But the point is that this type of game can be play for short period of time.
And between FIFA 94 to fifa2012 there are huge changes.

That was pretty much it. I'm actually contemplating getting a new sports game, because the last game I got was from 2001. There should be a noticceable improvement since that gameten years ago.

I jjust personally wouldn't buy one each year.....

whatever happened to sega sports? They had stuff like user modable rosters...IIRC

I'm addicted and have been programmed and brain washed by EA to buy every year, that is FIFA. However, I do enjoy buying it every year. When playing FIFA, the hardest thing is to play against other players. If you don't buy the new one, you will find less and less people online in the other one.
Playing online will beat any AI they may have with the most difficult settings. While in the beginning, it may be difficult to play with the hardest level in FIFA, at some point you can beat it. Of course, that is playing with good teams. If you play with teams with a lower skill roaster, then it will always be difficult.

Also, having the new roaster every year is great. There are too many changes going on around the entire world. Fifa does upgrade its roaster during at least 9 months since its first release date.

I'm a FIFA ADDICT
