Got this game today, and here's a few thoughts.

First, I'll start with the complaints. I've only played the game to 1 hour and 39 minutes, and I'm already at world 5 of 8. The game is pretty easy so far, especially for Mario fans. I've heard the difficulty ramps up later on, but I'll have to see. Even if you die a few times on one level, you rack up 1ups so often you'll probably never, ever see the Game Over screen. The levels are also pretty short. There's also the "Special Worlds" levels after you beat the game, which are simply the original levels but harder, and with new objectives (I think). But, there's one saving grace that makes me overlook these flaws:

The game is so damn fun.

The controls are near-perfect, the level design is top-notch, the graphics are shiny and colorful, the music is catchy, the enemies are memorable, and overall the game has a level of polish you don't see often these days. The 3D is very nice, and gives the option to have either a more "pop-out" effect, or a more subtle "depth" effect, which you can swap through in game. I prefer the "pop-out" mode, but the "depth" mode is a little easier on the eyes.

The game is a "get to the flag-pole" type, but it does allow for exploration. It's a bit like the old Sonic the Hedgehog games. You can breeze through the levels as fast as you can, or can explore and collect all the coins, items, etc. Like I mentioned earlier, the game is easy. It's no cakewalk, though. This is not one of those game where you can start playing and zone out. You have to watch your step.

If you have a 3DS, you have buy this game. If you don't have a 3DS, you now have a real reason to.

I was at Fry's today and it saw it on sale for $29.99 so I picked up a copy. Haven't had time to play it yet though.

Got mine at GameStop. Came with a Tanooki Mario keychain because I preordered the game there.

Ign's review said the first 8 worlds were rather easy but that the difficulty ramps up quickly after that.i haven't had a chance to play it or even pick it up but it was one of the games that I had in mind when I picked up the 3ds (like everyone else no doubt). I chose to start paying off debt two weeks too soon :(

I watched a review of it on GameTrailers earlier. It looks really good. Was probably a wise move to make it a 3D Mario, but keep it set up in a linear fashion like NSMB.

I just got the game earlier today, and was wondering if there was a way to turn into a statue with the Tanooki Suit. If not, why didn't they just make it Raccoon Mario?

I'm heading to the store to pick up a copy after I get off here. I thought the 13th was a typo or something, since most games release on a tuesday or a thursday...

Nintendo's generally on Sunday. That Fry's deal is tempting; not only is it a good price, but it's been a long while since I've seen them have a good launch deal like that. Used to see it all the time.

Those are some crappy instructions. I played a round last night and didn't know what the hell was going on.

I guess they're assuming everybody's played a Mario World game before. I went from the Atari 2600 to a Vic 20 and did my gaming on computers from that point on until I got a Playstation for Spyro the Dragon (I collect dragons).

Probably so. Series has only been out for what, a quarter century?

Not sure if you were saying that in a bad way or a good way.

Personally, I think it's a great idea. You don't have to carry a paper manual everywhere, it saves paper, and you can even access it while the game is paused.

I don't like it. It doesn't bring any savings to the gamer and, to me, is just one hurdle that needed to be jumped in order to make everything DLC. Some people may like not having physical media that is a pain to store and can be damaged. Even I thought it would be great but when I lost most of everything that I had downloaded on my xbox when it died I realized that what I had bought and downloaded wasn't really mine to begin with..... I'll stop, this isn't the thread for my complianing ;) enjoy the game. I hope to pick it up soon.

This game is kinda difficult, even at the level 1 castle. Took me a few attempts to get to Bowser, and even then, two more attempts to figure out what the hell I was supposed to do. And it sucks that apparently when you die you can't go back and get more lives at an earlier level. I think you're stuck there until you defeat the level you selected, right? I don't remember that being an issue in earlier Mario games...

Not true. You can stock up on lives by replaying earlier levels if you want.

Well, when I was playing the castle in world 1 and died, I didn't go back to the map, I started right at the beginning of the castle again.

I just got the game along with the Zelda bundle and love the game so far. IMHO it's like a cross between Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Galaxy.
